Summary

The Austin Songwriters Group (ASG) was founded in 1987 as a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and developing aspiring songwriters. For a number of years, ASG has annually had two song contests winners historically earning prominent performance opportunities, music gear, mentoring sessions, recording sessions, and many other prizes./n/nThe Austin Songwriters Group (ASG) was founded in 1987 as a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and developing aspiring songwriters. With a membership of approximately 300, the group also provides numerous opportunities for working with publishers, A&R reps and other music industry professionals.

For a number of years, ASG has annually had two song contests, with winners historically earning prominent performance opportunities, music gear, mentoring sessions, recording sessions at famed studios, and many other prizes.

All winners will receive an ASG certificate award designating their status in the contest. Artists in all genres are accepted and the categories for entry are: Country, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Blues, Inspirational/Gospel, Singer-Songwriter/Bare Bones, Instrumental, Lyrics only, General (including comedy, novelty, showtunes, etc.). Artists may submit an unlimited number of songs to the contest.

In the past, there have been performance opportunities for winners of the contest. Last year's grand prize winner, Scott Joffe, recently opened a show for Radney Foster at a benefit concert for the Songwriter's Group and as part of his prize, will record a song at Willie Nelson's studio.

  • Grand Prize Winner: First Place - Mentoring session with Will Callery ("Hands on the Wheel" - sung by Norah Jones & Willie Nelson); an opening slot for a platinum writer at one of their showcases in Austin. A guitar autographed by some of the world class songwriters that live or travel through Austin. Entry to the 2011 Symposium and a showcase there! They will send your winning song to the media, publishers, artists, managers, and anyone that they think will help take you and your song to the next level of having someone use it.



  • Grand Prize Winner: Second Place - Mentoring session with Will Callery ("Hands on the Wheel" - sung by Norah Jones & Willie Nelson); One entry for a 2011 Symposium Showcase. One entry to a songwriting workshop of your choice.



  • Grand Prize Winner: Third Place - Mentoring session with Will Callery ("Hands on the Wheel" - sung by Norah Jones and Willie Nelson). One entry for a 2011 Symposium Showcase.

  • First Place in Each Category: Four hours studio time with Bobby Arnold at Texas State University (priceless) Read Bobby's bio on their website (he is one of the finest engineers and teachers); one free year ASG membership ($100 value + discounts at ASG events) Entry into the 2011 Songwriters Symposium.

  • Twenty Honorable Mentions: certificates and one free entry into the 2010 Fall Song Contest
