Summary

The Media Arts & Literacy Institute recognizes the parallels between the film, music and literary industries, which are all dominated in such a way that women continue to strive for positive media acknowledgment. This festival is doing its part in closing that divide. A festival wholly focused on the contributions of all women; with a special emphasis on showcasing women of Latin, African, African American, Asian & Native decent.

The Austin Woman's Film, Music & Literary Festival is back in Austin, TX for its 7th annual event on Thursday, April 26th - Sunday, April 29th, 2007. The festival will be held at the Carver Museum & Cultural Center.



This is a call for women musicians to submit their EPKs. Selected artists will perform at the festival. Participating in the Austin Woman's Film, Music & Literary Festival will provide you with exposure to professional's who are in the industry and who will have the ability, connections and influence to help jump start your career. Past performers have signed valuable licensing deals at the festival and have subsequently had their music featured in several award winning indie films.



A “peer board” will check out each band’s performance and select a “Best of the Fest”. Prizes for being selected “Best of the Fest” include a choice of $500 cash, a free travel pass, 20 hours of free studio time at Blowin’ Up a Spot studio or a professionally designed CD cover. Typically, 600 – 1,000 people attend the festival each year so in addition to a great potential payout, there is the chance for some great exposure. 10 of 20 total performance slots are reserved for Sonicbids artists.



All selected artists will be placed on a Q&A feedback panel to discuss their work at the festival and featured on the “ M.A.L.I SPRING” complication CD!



Only bands that are comprised of 40% or more women members will be considered.



This event is funded in part by the City Of Austin and produced by the Media Arts & Literacy Institute of Texas. This is a non-profit event. The purpose of Austin's Woman's Film, Music & Literary Festival is to increase the awareness of women's artistic wizardry by showcasing women of various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. The mission is to create and sustain a vital marketplace for women as media makers. There will be four days of fabulous films, performances and industry workshops that are designed to showcase talented female individuals and groups from across Texas, the United States and the world.



Please note: The “Best Of The Fest” offer applies to early submission entries only (ending February 17, 2007). Also, every artist who submits will be required to fill out an entry form and mail it in by March 17.
