Summary

The Media Arts & Literacy Institute recognizes the parallels between the film, music and literary industries - All are dominated in such a way that women must continue to strive for positive media acknowledgment. The Austin Woman’s Film, Music, and Literary Festival is doing its part in closing the gender divide within the entertainment industry. This festival is wholly focused on the contributions of all women; with a
special emphasis on showcasing women of Latin, African, African American, Asian,Native American & European decent.

Running for its 8th year, the 2008 festival will take place May 22 – 25, 2008 in Austin, Texas.

This is a call for women musicians to submit their EPKs for consideration to perform at the festival. Participating in the Austin Woman's Film, Music & Literary Festival will provide you with exposure to professionals who are in the industry and who will have the ability, connections and influence to help jump start your career. Past performers have signed valuable licensing deals at the festival and have subsequently had their music featured in several award winning indie films.

A “peer board” will check out each band’s performance and select a “Best of the Fest.” Prizes for being selected “Best of the Fest” include a choice of $500 cash, a free travel pass, 20 hours of free studio time at Blowin’ Up a Spot studio or a professionally designed CD cover. Typically, 600 – 1,000 people attend the festival each year so in addition to a great potential payout, there is the chance for some great exposure.

All selected artists will be placed on a Q&A feedback panel to discuss their work at the festival and featured on the “ M.A.L.I SPRING” complication CD!

Only bands that are comprised of 40% or more women members will be considered.

This event is funded in part by the City Of Austin and produced by the Media Arts & Literacy Institute of Texas. This is a non-profit event. The purpose of Austin's Woman's Film, Music & Literary Festival is to increase the awareness of women's artistic wizardry by showcasing women of various ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
