Summary

The Avalonfest Songwriting Contest is part of the annual Avalonfest music and arts festival, which takes place Aug. 8-10, 2008 at Avalon, the mid-Atlantic's premier clothing optional resort, located near Paw Paw, WV. Jack Williams is the featured songwriter at the festival this year and will serve as a contest judge. Last year's winner was Joe Giocoio.

The 2008 winner will receive $300, a 30-minute performance slot at the festival on Saturday, 8/9/08, the offer of a paid performance opportunity in Avalonfest 2009, and a new, exclusive "trophy" award, designed to draw customers' attention to your product displays.

Anyone may enter the contest except those billed as performers at Avalonfest '08. Four finalists will be selected to perform at the festival.

Submit two songs (in any music category) that have not been released for sale. The two songs entered are the songs that will be performed by Finalists at Avalonfest '08. Writers retain all rights to songs. Entries that include a well-crafted song that refers to getting naked or to the wholesome, egalitarian spirit of naturism, or plays on words that refer to nudity are likely to win the judges' (and the audience's) favor.

Four finalists will be selected to perform at Avalonfest '08. Finalists may invite other musicians to join their performances, but the songwriter must perform the songs entered. Each finalist will receive two 3-day festival tickets, meals and a campsite at the festival. Finalists will perform the two songs entered in the contest on Friday 8/8/08. Finalists may sell recordings at the Avalonfest product tent.

In this competition, song craft is the most important element, but performance does count. Judges will include songwriters Jack Williams and Sue Trainor (of Hot Soup), a representative of BMI, and booking representatives from several regional venues.
