Summary

Avalonfest 2009 takes place August 7-9, 2009 at Avalon, the premier clothing optional resort near Paw Paw, West Virginia. David Roth is their featured performing songwriter this year and will serve as a judge in the annual performing songwriter competition. Previous winners include Kaydi Johnson (2008) and Joe Giacoio (2007).



Anyone may enter except those billed as performers in Avalonfest 2009. Four finalists will be selected to perform at the festival.



Submit two songs that have not been released for sale. The two songs entered are the songs that will be performed by Finalists at Avalonfest 2009. Writers retain all rights to the songs.



They have a bias: they admit it. Entries that include a well-crafted song that refers to getting naked or to the wholesome, egalitarian spirit of naturism, or plays on words that refer to nudity are likely to win favor with our judges and our audience.



Prizes and Judging:



  • FOUR FINALISTS will be selected to perform at Avalonfest 2009. Finalists may invite other musicians to join their performance, but the songwriter must perform the songs entered.


  • FINALIST PRIZES will include two 3-day festival tickets, meals and a campsite at the festival. Finalists will perform the two songs entered in the contest on Friday, 8/7. Finalists may sell recordings in the Avalonfest 2009 product tent.


  • JUDGING: In this competition, song craft is the most important element, but performance does count. Judges will include songwriters David Roth, Sue Trainor (of Hot Soup and Avalonfest) and booking representatives of several regional venues including Scott Moore of Focus concerts (Rockville, MD and Alexandria, VA), Shari Gallery (Hampshire Co., WV). Audience preference will be invited.


  • WINNER will receive $300, a 30-minute performance slot at the festival on Saturday, 8/8/09, the offer of a paid performance opportunity in Avalonfest 2010, and the Avalonfest Performing Songwriter Competition trophy featuring tastefully artistic nude, perfect for attracting customer eyes and interest to your CD product display.
