The selected bands will be featured on the event series' blog, the SoundCtrl website, and press/blogger partners (changes week to week). In addition, video footage from the show will be hosted on promoter YouTube, Vodpod, and Vimeo sites and distributed online to various industry blogs and media outlets.

Selected bands will be playing in front of 15-20 music industry taste makers (journalists, label reps, agents, managers, etc).

Previous attendees include reps from MTV, Atlantic, Columbia, and Universal, as well as startups like Topspin Media and Hype Machine.

Once the bands have been chosen, a mutually agreeable date in July 2010 will be set, and the promoter/event organizer, David Chaitt, will work with them to determine the kind of attendees who would be best to help achieve their goals.

The series events are casual, and they are great opportunities to network with label reps, A&R, bookers, and consultants. They are free, private events, and while there is no guaranteed compensation, artists may sell their music, and they'll receive drinks and a great meal. Audio recordings from the event may be sold as digital downloads (terms negotiable with the promoter).

Artists' music doesn't have to be acoustic in nature, but must be adaptable for an unplugged, acoustic environment.

Other artists confirmed to play throughout the summer (with more to come): Franz Nicolay (formerly of The Hold Steady), Person L (lead by former singer/bassist from The Starting Line), Kerri Scarr (from Moby's live band), Nicole Atkins, Team B (featuring members of Beirut, Antibalas, and Arcade Fire)

Testimonials:

"Oh Man! what a great opportunity! We met a lot of cool (read: biz-types) people, had some drinks, got loose in the sun, and, then played a fun stripped down 30 minute set. It was an all around net-positive experience. Highly recommended."

Alex Picca, The Press

"Dave's brunch party was an incredibly laid-back, enjoyable experience. I got to nerd out with some pretty fascinating people, eat stellar homemade pizza (langoustine BBQ??), and play music for an appreciative, knowledgeable audience. I'd do it again in a heartbeat."

Todd Goldstein, ARMS

About the promoter, David Chaitt:

David has worked as a Marketing Consultant for Live Nation and as the exclusive Booking Agent and Tour Manager for Ropeadope Records. He is the Founder of Three Way Booking and Artist Services, offering consulting for bands, labels, music industry startups, and publicity companies. He is a Board Member of SoundCtrl, a music technology organization in NYC. In addition to editing the SoundCtrl blog, he also runs the popular Twentysomething in the Music Biz blog.

"For as long as I can remember," says David, "my two main passions have been music and food. I can't play an instrument, but I can definitely cook, so I used to host dinner parties at my apartment for all my music industry friends to eat and talk with each other. Once I moved to an apartment with an incredible backyard, I started having bands play and then that evolved to me filming them. This summer I'm taking it a step further by turning these Backyard events into an online video series."
