Banana Peel is not simply a podcast- it is a web site designed to promote the artist via audio selection and pre-recorded interviews.

Banana Peel's aim is to give listeners a true definition of world talent that normally does not get mainstream airplay or proper recognition for their efforts. They feature independent artists play alternative, punk, rock, reggae, electronic, rap, hip-hop,and world beat.

Banana Peel is the 21st century version of the classic British radio classic the John Peel show which played all sorts of unsigned bands and broke the rules of mainstream music. It offered a more "art for art's sake" approach to the music scene as opposed to music for money approach, which is better known as mainstream or commercial Top 40. They also have special interviews with prominent personalities in the business to add some insight to the indie market and music industry. This includes Artie Kornfield, the CO Producer of Woodstock, and Michael Timmins from one of the best Canadian bands, The Cowboy Junkies.

Commercial top 40 is out to give the major record companies a complete control of our musicians' talent, ordering them to play a certain beat and style in which conforms to the main stream. Therefore all effort that the artists use to create music is used by the major labels for profit, which for the most part destroys the zestgeist effect or "art for art's sake" effect which defines true talent of musicians. More and more musicians starting out today will the independent approach, using the the internet to promote themselves to avoid this capital discrimination against the talent they posses. Banana Peel is all about the art of music and the recognition of the independent artists who will not sell out to the music industry standards despite the pressure of major record companies and take control of their own destiny to support their own careers. It is these artists that will be featured.
