Staging 5 performance areas, the event presents traditional, classical and contemporary concerts reflecting the diverse face of modern day Australia. Workshops are held throughout the weekend as well as outdoor physical theatre and the program includes a children’s festival with professional child minding and crèche facilities.

Generally artists perform a minimum of 2 sets during the weekend and sometimes a workshop. They provide comfortable billet accommodation to all performers but we are a tiny Community and this is offered to performers and essential management only. Artist camping is available and direct family members have free access to this area as well as festival passes at concession rates.

Initially the Global Carnival requires all artists to be available for the whole of the festival for best programming outcomes and also exclusive performance rights within a 400km radius of Bellingen (Newcastle/Murwillambah/Tamworth) during the weekend of the festival unless agreed by prior arrangement.

Art, craft and photography are exhibited and the program also includes a forum for discussing social and cultural issues as well as a market arena providing delicious food and craft from around the world. The festival, which has strong links with the ‘world music’ community in Australia, concentrates on an experience that enables the audience to have an intimate encounter with the performers and their art form. There is a focus on contemporary music which draws from different cultures and juxtaposes the new with the more traditional.
