Summary

Carifest CARES is a fun filled musical celebration consisting of diverse cultures and cuisine. Each year the event features the finest artists, foods, and arts & crafts. Carifest CARES was established in 1998, and is produced by Legendary Records Inc., a complete production company with producers, artists and a recording studio based in Brooklyn, New York.

The 10th anniversary of the Carifest CARES will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the USTA National Tennis Center, a 15,000 capacity venue, in Flushing, NY. The event will be held from 6pm to 11pm. This year’s festival is a benefit for AIDS Awareness and Keep A Child Alive. Keep A Child Alive is an urgent response to the AIDS epidemic ravaging Africa. Their work makes it possible for children and families to obtain life-saving medication and support for survival. Keep A Child Alive gives 100% of donations to their cause.

Carifest CARES is now accepting submissions for general performance consideration. They are looking for reggae and rock music submissions, and are open to many varying styles of reggae and rock music. Carifest CARES is hoping to select 3 to 5 artists to perform at a Times Square club during the first week of June. The audience will determine which of the performers will advance to perform at Carifest CARES in July. The exact date and venue in Times Square are still to be determined. The selected band that will perform at Carifest CARES will be compensated for their performance.

Confirmed headliners for 2008 include Midnite, Groundation, Eek-A-Mouse, Lee “Scratch” Perry, Causion, Kayla Bliss, Meta and the Cornerstones, and Joseph Israel. Past performers include Buju Banton, Bunny Wailer, MatisYahu, Jimmy Cliff, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, and many more.
