Summary

The world-renowned CMJ Music Marathon is New York City's largest music festival, attracting more than 100,000 music professionals, artists and music enthusiasts to NYC every autumn.



Since its inception in 1981 CMJ has been a springboard for the best new music talent from multiple music genres, discovering music's future superstars years before their commercial breakthroughs including marquee artists like The Knife (’06), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah ('05), The Arcade Fire ('04), The Killers ('03), Modest Mouse ('98), Eminem ('98), Black Eyed Peas ('97), Wilco ('96), Green Day ('94), Queen Latifah ('90), The Beastie Boys ('85), U2 ('85), Red Hot Chili Peppers ('84) and R.E.M. ('83),



Representing the best of the New, more than 1,000 artists from the worlds of alternative, rock, electronica, hip-hop, metal, Americana, world, jazz and so much more will invade New York during CMJ week. At CMJ, it's virtually assured that one of 2008's breakout bands will be playing somewhere in New York City during CMJ week in 2007.



New this year for bands outside of North America: 10 bands from outside North America will be eligible for a travel stipend of $1000 USD. Selected artists will be paid half upon proof of travel to CMJ and half after their performance at CMJ.



In addition to showcasing thousands of performers in clubs all over the city to 100,000 music enthusiasts, CMJ Music Marathon hosts five days of nonstop events including panels, keynote speeches, film premieres, mentoring sessions, tutorials and a sizzling, interactive lifestyle area.
