Metromix and the D.C. Lottery want to help you get famous! Enter D.C.'s Hottest Five competition and you could win a recording package, worldwide digital distribution deal, and your own headlining concert at the world famous Hard Rock Cafe!


They’re looking for acts from all genres; rock, hip-hop, pop, country, jazz, German polka...as long as you're good at what you do, you can enter! All they ask is that you have at least one original song to submit. (Sorry, cover bands!) Submission is open now and ends at 11:59 on July 26!


After the submission period ends, they’ll select the 25 best acts and post them on DC.METROMIX.COM, along with a photo, bio and a link to where our Metromix readers can hear some of their tunes, then vote on which group they think is the best. The top five bands will each get a spot on WUSA*9 CBS's morning show, and then go on to perform at the Hard Rock Cafe on August 27 in a final showdown concert.


Voting lasts from July 29-August 12: See who made the top 25 acts in D.C.! Listen to some of their songs and vote for your favorite band here .


After a week of on air performances, all five musical acts will perform live at the Hard Rock Cafe on August 27th for a final showdown open to the public. Once all the groups have played, audience members can text their vote for the performer(s) they think are D.C.'s hottest musical sensation! More details will be announced closer to the concert date.


What are the prizes?

Five qualifying bands will get:



  • A spot in the Battle of the Bands concert at the Hard Rock Cafe on August 27.

  • An in studio performance at WUSA*9 CBS to be broadcast during the morning show August 17-21.

  • A chance to write the theme song for Channel 9's recurring news segment "Hero Central"



One grand prize winner will receive:


  • Their own headlining show at the Hard Rock Cafe

  • A worldwide digital release party for their song from Braat Musik

  • Professional press photos and their own electronic press kit

  • Prizes from the D.C. Lottery worth at least $100

  • A $200 Hard Rock Cafe gift certificate good at any HRC in the U.S.
