Summary

THE 2008 EAST COAST MUSIC AWARDS, CONFERENCE & FESTIVAL. CANADIAN MUSIC EAST COAST STYLE. A UNIQUE CULTURAL AND BUSINESS EXPERIENCE.

Encompassing an industry convention, an award show, a wide array of concert venues and showcases, a host community that embraces the event and a spotlight on local, national and international recording artists … you might think Toronto, New York or Los Angeles. No, it is our very own East Coast Music Awards, Conference & Festival. A celebration of the best and brightest musical talent, home-grown in our Atlantic Canadian community.

Celebrating our 20th Anniversary, the East Coast Music Association is preparing for the 2008 East Coast Music Awards, Conference & Festival in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada February 7th - 10th, 2008. The four-day music and industry extravaganza will take the city by storm. Throughout the city, the region's music and roots will take centre stage as artists and industry representatives meet to focus on the growth and development of our unique musical culture, celebrate our achievements and showcase our diverse talent.

Attended by more than 2,500 industry representatives and performers, the event has grown from a one-day event hosted in a Halifax bar, to a forum that has helped to promote many of Atlantic Canada’s artists to national and international presenters and buyers.

This is the opportunity to submit for the ECMA Single of the Year Award. This award recognizes single recordings. Product submitted must be released to radio during the eligibility period and not have been released to retail prior to June 1, 2006. If released on a full-length recording, a written notice identifying the specific track and radio release date must accompany it. Applications for this award should include any relevant tracking reports and radio airplay information pertaining to the single submitted. The award goes to the artist/group and the producer. The artist/group must be Atlantic Canadian (not necessarily the producer).

Please note: Eligible artists must be Atlantic Canadian. An Atlantic Canadian is defined as:

  1. A person who was either born in Atlantic Canada; or
  2. A person who has lived in Atlantic Canada for the full eligibility period (June 1, 2006 to October 15, 2007).

At least 50% of group members must be Atlantic Canadian.
You must be a member of BOTH ECMA and Sonicbids to qualify for any ECMA opportunity. You may submit before you become a member of ECMA; however, you must join ECMA by the submission deadline in order for your submission to be considered.

Terms And Conditions

The East Coast Music Association (ECMA) may present awards in fifty (50) categories.

Winners in as many as twenty-nine (29) music categories are chosen by the combined votes of all eligible members of the East Coast Music Association. Voting for Entertainer of the Year Award is open to the public vote in addition to the membership vote. Winners in as many as sixteen (16) industry categories are presented each year at the Industry Awards Show. The ECMA Board of Directors annually determines recipients in as many as five (5) honourary award categories.

Each category is included in the current years voting process once a minimum of three (3) submissions has been received by the ECMA.

All submissions must be by members in good standing of the East Coast Music Association. The submissions are then sent to committees of Atlantic Canadians and national jurors with a demonstrated expertise and knowledge of the overall industry or individual categories. The committees forward their top eight (8) suggestions in each category to the accounting firm of Lyle Tilley Davidson and the top three (3) to five (5) selections in each category become the nominees. While the minimum requirement for each category remains at three (3), the ECMAs intent is to present five (5) nominations in each category.
