Encompassing an industry conference, an awards show, a wide array of showing stages, a host community that embraces the event and a spotlight on local, national and international recording artists, the East Coast Music Awards, Conference & Festival celebrates the best and brightest musical talent, home-grown in Atlantic Canada.


Celebrating its 22nd year, the East Coast Music Association is preparing for the 2010 East Coast Music Awards, Conference & Festival in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada March 4-7, 2010. The four-day music and industry extravaganza will take the city by storm. Throughout the city, the region's music and roots will take centre stage as artists and industry representatives meet to focus on the growth and development of our unique musical culture, celebrate our achievements and showcase our diverse talent.


Attended by more than 2,500 industry representatives and performers, the event has grown from a one-day event hosted in a Halifax bar, to a forum that has helped to promote many of Atlantic Canada’s artists to national and international presenters and buyers.


Throughout the ECMA Event, there are a wide range of awards presented across many genres – and this is your chance to submit for an ECMA 2010 Award. All Atlantic Canadian artists who are members in good standing of the East Coast Music Association and who released recordings BETWEEN JUNE 1, 2008 – OCTOBER 1, 2009 are eligible to submit for the 2010 East Coast Music Awards.


The artist/group must provide proof of the date of the release. This can be done through submitting manufacturing invoices, a letter from a distributor, or a record company. In lieu of proof from a manufacturer, distributor or record company, the artist/group must provide documentation confirming that product is available through three (3) alternate sources of professional distribution (i.e. letter from retailer, contract with internet point of sale, catalogue listing, etc).


Eligible artists must be Atlantic Canadian. An Atlantic Canadian is defined as:


    1. A person who was either born in Atlantic Canada; or

    2. A person who has lived in Atlantic Canada for the full eligibility period (June 1, 2008 to October 1, 2009).

    At least 50% of group members must be Atlantic Canadian.


All submission requirements must be met. PLEASE NOTE INCOMPLETE OR LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.


Artists/groups nominated for an ECMA 2010 Music Award are automatically entered in for the 2010 Fan’s Choice Award.


For the definitions of Aboriginal and African-Canadian pertaining to those categories, please contact the ECMA office.

Where there are fewer than the minimum required submissions, that category will be forfeited for that year and submission refunds provided. Submissions WILL NOT be automatically eligible in the same category for the following year which is different than in past years.


Any occurrences of questionable eligibility shall be dealt with at the discretion of the ECMA Awards Committee.
