Summary

The Electric Brew is a place for coffee and gathering in downtown Goshen, IN. It is looking for local, regional and touring artists to perform live at the cozy cafe that seats 50 people. The venue is a great spot for artists on their way to or from Chicago, IL or South Bend, IN and who are looking for a gig on the road. Artists will be compensated with tips (a $5 donation is recommended). The cafe accepts pop, acoustic, folk, singer/songwriter, blues, bluegrass, Americana, country, electronic and other eclectic genres, but is not accepting punk, screamo, metal or anything that would not suit the intimate venue. A PA system with 2 mics and some cables are provided by the promoter, but artists must bring their own instruments and gear.



The Electric Brew in downtown Goshen opened in April 1996 and has become one of the most popular destinations in town for the college crowd. In August of 2008, The Electric Brew began roasting its own coffee and in September, 2008, it was approved as a Fair Trade Certified coffee house. It provides great drinks, food and live music.

Terms And Conditions

Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters. Songs which have been commercially released may be entered.

Your entry must include your telephone number (with area code), e-mail address, and song title. Lyrics sheet (when applicable) must be included for each song for judging purposes. Entry Fee - Non-ASG members: $30 for the first entry and $25 for each additional entry. ASG members: $20 for the first entry and $15 for each additional entry. If you choose to join the ASG at the time you enter, please include ASG entry form and membership fee ($50) and enter at the ASG member rate. ALL STYLES OF MUSIC ARE ELIGIBLE. Please designate the appropriate category.

Each song must be the contestant's original work. Entrants and their collaborators will retain full rights to all work submitted for the competition.

Prizewinning songs from prior ASG song contests are not eligible.

Judging:

A committee consisting of industry professionals and songwriters will judge the songs. The finalist songs in each category are sent to nationally recognized industry professionals for the selection of First, Second, and Third Place winners.

Song title and number will identify all entrants during judging to maintain anonymity. Judges will use four criteria: melody, lyrics (when applicable), originality and form. The quality of performance or production value will not be considered.

The same song may be entered in different production categories with separate entry forms and separate entry fees.

Judges are not eligible to enter any category for which they will adjudicate.

Finalists will be notified by June 14 by e-mail.

Winners will be announced June 15th. Winners will also be notified by email, and their names will be posted on the ASG's web site.

Entries that violate these rules may be disqualified, and submitted fees will not be returned. All judges' decisions are final.

In the event there is more than one writer for a winning song, winners are responsible for the division of the prize.

Production quality will NOT be considered when judging songs- this is a contest about songwriting, not engineering skills!
