Summary

The Estrojam Music and Culture Festival is an annual 501C3 not-for-profit, community-based event that features internationally acclaimed and emerging musicians, artists, educators, activists, and community leaders in dozens of events, including; concerts, workshops, panels, and a film festival presented at Chicago's best venues. Each year, Estrojam works to promote and benefit pro-women non-profit organizations that support non-violent social change. The event takes place September 19-23, 2007 and this year there are 5 spots reserved for Sonicbids artists.

Each year, 50-100 artists play the festival. At this past year's Estrojam and preview shows throughout the year, over 10,000 people attended - and shows were sold out nearly every night. The location of the festival varies each year, but some of last yearÂ’s venues included Metro, Abbey, Schubas, The Vic, Park West, Subterranean, Empty Bottle, Uncommon Ground, and Chicago Park District. Bands will be compensated for their performance with details to be negotiated. All artists will be provided with a registration package including a full pass to the festival. All genres are accepted.

The festival has had performances in the past from such artists as; Pretty Girls Make Graves, Concrete Blonde, Brazilian Girls, Nina Hagen, Team Dresch, Leslie and the Ly's, The Organ, Amy Ray, Bahamadia, Cat Power, The Gossip, Lyrisis, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Wanda Jackson, All Girl Summer Fun Band, Northern State, Kaki King, Kinnie Starr, Theo from the Lunachicks, Cynthia Plaster Caster, The Butchies, Staceyann Chin, Princess Superstar, Laura Love and Bitch & Animal.

Estrojam sponsors include: ORBITZ, Showtime/The L Word, The Inns at Lincoln Park, The Chicago Reader, UR Chicago, Bust Magazine, Bitch Magazine, Punk Planet, Smartwater, WLUW, Folks Fest and Planet Blue Grass, Alarm Magazine, Righteous Babe Records, Curve Magazine and Innocent Words Records & Magazine.

Estrojam is organized by women and open to all. The mission is to help build and foster a supportive arts community that inspires, educates, breaks down stereotypes, and encourages bold creative expression.
