Summary

The "First Friday" Concert Series takes place the first Friday of every month at The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts in Montgomery, Alabama from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Providing a venue to expand the appreciation for art and music, this is an excellent opportunity for up-and-coming artists, as well as established acts, to get in front of new faces.

Genres accepted include: Jazz, folk, blues, Celtic, adult contemporary and indie. Showcasing one band each evening, the series has a culturally refined yet surprisingly relaxed atmosphere. Performance opportunities are available for Sonicbids artists in the upcoming months.

Selected artists are compensated for their performance and will have merchandising rights. In addition, because this is an early evening event, assistance is also available in booking other local venues for later in the evening if available.

Past performers at the series include Shanna Sharpe, Dominic Gaudeous, Kurt McKinney, The Blue Light Specials, Tapestry Jazz, Dicki Du & the Zydeco Krewe and many other excellent artists.

Until 1971, the Museum’s collections included historical objects, archeological artifacts and art. In that year, the focus of the Museum’s collections was redefined and the collecting and preservation of art became the focus of the Museum’s mission. The Museum opened in the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park on September 18, 1988. Since that time, over one million visitors have enjoyed the wide range of exhibitions and programs offered throughout the year. An unusually successful partnership of public and private commitment to the arts in Montgomery, Alabama has assured the future of one of the South’s premier cultural institutions.
