Summary

Since 1980, diverse musical acts from all over gather every third weekend in July on the sandy shores of Yellowknife's scenic Long Lake to bring you the coolest Canadian music festival north of 60.



The event features six stages of live music, workshops, a cultural area and beer garden and 25+ bands.



Artists who have performed recently include Tegan and Sara, Sarah Harmer, the Saidies, Basia Bulat, Tanya Tagaq, Sloan, Chilchirgun (Tuvian throat singers), Serena Ryder Ndidi Onukwulu, Jill Barber, Steve Dawson, Fred Eaglesmith, Leela Gilday, Hawksley Workman, Kiran Aluwhalia and many more./n/nSince 1980, every third weekend in July, over 25 diverse musical acts from North, South and beyond, gather on the sandy shores of Yellowknife's scenic Long Lake to bring you Folk on the Rocks - the coolest Canadian Music Festival north of 60! Set in a natural amphitheater, the breathtaking site provides the backdrop for six stages of live music, workshops, a cultural area and beer garden - all under the lure of the midnight sun.




Folk on the Rocks' unique mix of 50% southern and 50% northern musical acts results in a culturally diverse program for both artists and audiences to experience. Folk on the Rocks was voted one of the top ten festivals in Canada on CBC Searchlight.


The weekend unofficially kicks off on Thursday night, July 19th, with Rock the Folks, a battle of Yellowknife's hottest youth bands who play for a spot in the festival. Then, Friday night we "Warm the Rocks", where musicians play at various venues throughout downtown Yellowknife.


Not just music, Folk on the Rocks artisan area showcases the talent of local artists and craftspeople. An eclectic food fair, and cultural area also help create an incredibly rich, culturally diverse atmosphere for our truly northern festival. Between Saturday and Sunday, over 4,000 visitors will come to Long Lake to listen to music, take in the scenery and enjoy the most anticipate weekend of the year.
