Summary

The FALCON RIDGE EMERGING ARTIST SHOWCASE is the opportunity to play at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (FRFF)– a four-day community of folk music and dance at the foot of the Berkshires in east-central New York State. This year’s festival will be held July 20, 21, 22 & 23, 2006 on the Dodds Farm in Hillsdale, NY near the MA/CT/NY border. The opportunity is open to all performers who have NOT showcased or appeared as a feature act at FRFF in 2004 or 2005 and who will not be appearing in any other capacity such as sideperson or special guest at this year's fest. One entry per artist is allowed. This applies to all members of groups/bands.

Selected artists will appear Friday, July 21 on the FRFF Mainstage between noon and 5P. The format is 2 songs or 10 minutes for each artist. There are 24 slots available. A committee of three music professionals review submissions and select the 24 participating bands. The only criteria are high quality performances of interesting, well-crafted acoustic based material. It need not be original.

The showcase is not a contest and artists will not be judged. However, the audience is surveyed as to which THREE SHOWCASE ARTISTS they wish to see return to the MOST WANTED SONG SWAP at FRFF the following year. Three to six artists are invited to return. Some go on to be featured acts at FRFF. A spring Preview Tour of the MWSS artists arranged by FRFF takes place yearly in early May also. The SHOWCASE and MW SONG SWAP are an opportunity to be seen and heard in a large amphitheatre setting with hundreds of avid folk fans, presenters, agents, record labels and media in attendance. Artists may also apply directly to be a Featured Artist – FRFF accepts EPKs for consideration on an ongoing basis. Please note that if you are selected for both, you may only perform in one. Click here to apply for the featured artist opportunity.

Selected artists appear in the program book, will be assisted by our excellent stage crew and will enjoy the very best sound reinforcement in the known universe – Klondike Sound! Additionally, all showcase artists are provided with full fest admission plus meals and on-site camping. One full fest guest pass per showcase act is allowed. Showcasers are encouraged to bring mailing lists and merchandise to the Performer Music Sales tent. FRFF takes 10% on all artist merchandise sales. The entrance fee, which covers postage and administration costs, is the only fee required.

Performers who have played on the different FRFF stages in the past includes GRAMMY winners Shawn Colvin and Alison Krauss, also Ani DiFranco, Greg Brown, Dar Williams, John Gorka, Richard Shindell, Bill Morrissey, The Nields, Moxy Früvous, The Flirtations, George Marshall with Wild Asparagus, Odetta, Chris Smither, Cheryl Wheeler, Tom Paxton, Richard Thompson, Roger McGuinn, Catie Curtis, Patty Larkin, The Horseflies, Sloan Wainwright, Martin Sexton, The Kennedys, Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Andes Manta, Hoopoe the Clowne, Kim & Reggie Harris, Magpie, Dan Bern, disappear fear, Viva Quetzal, The Bobs, Ulali, Vance Gilbert, Ferron, Bob Malone, Ellis Paul, Susan Werner, Karen Savoca, Mustard's Retreat, The Ivy Vine Players, Eddie From Ohio and many, many others.

Be sure to indicate a contact person on the app if you will be unavailable in early June. If selected, artists must supply the FRFF office with a detailed stage plot. We will send a plot form with simple directions along with the acceptance letter.
