What’s at stake?


  • The First Place artist will receive a credit against full tuition for a single enrollment in a Fall 2011 Associate Degree or Certificate program. They will also receive up to $10,000 in living expenses.


  • The First Runner Up will receive a credit against full tuition for a single enrollment in a Fall 2011 Associate Degree or Certificate program.


  • The Second Runner Up will receive a 50% credit against tuition for a single enrollment in a Fall 2011 Associate Degree or Certificate program. See Official Rules below for details.

How it works:

Individual artists may submit into one of the following categories: Bass, Drums, Guitar, Vocals or Keys. In mid-July, all eligible artists and their videos will be posted on a public voting site, where their fans can vote daily to help them get one step closer to a Full Ride scholarship.



At the end of the public voting round, a panel of judges will review and evaluate the artists with the most votes and will select the finalists. Musicians Institute will host the finalists in Los Angeles to rehearse with some of LA’s top session musicians who will perform with them in a live competition on the Musicians Institute campus on September 2, 2011. All performances will be judged by a panel of Musicians Institute faculty members who will determine the winners based upon pre-determined criteria.

THE FOLLOWING CONTEST IS VALID WORLDWIDE AND SHALL BE CONSTRUED AND EVALUATED ACCORDING TO UNITED STATES LAW. YOU MAY NOT SUBMIT AN ENTRY IN THE CONTEST UNLESS YOU ARE: 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER; AND YOU HAVE AN ACTIVE EMAIL ADDRESS AS OF DECEMBER 8th, 2010. THOSE WHO ARE 17 YEARS OF AGE MUST HAVE WRITTEN CONSENT OF PARENT OR GUARDIAN AT TIME OF ENTRY. CONTEST BEGINS ON DECEMBER 8th, 2010 AND ENDS AT 11:59:59 pm ET on FEBRUARY 25TH, 2011.

Musicians Institute (Sponsor) is offering this Contest (Contest).

1. This Contest is open worldwide to musicians who are 18 years of age or older at time of Entry with an active e-mail address as of December 8th, 2010. Those who are at least seventeen (17) years of age must have the written consent of a parent or legal guardian at the time of Entry. The term Musician used herein shall refer to an individual that: a) performs music; and b) does not currently have an exclusive recording arrangement with any recording label that would render him/her incapable of granting the rights that an entrant, Semi-finalist, Finalist or the Grand Prize Winner is required to grant in accordance with these Official Rules. This Contest is void where prohibited. Employees, officers and directors of Sponsors, their affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, retailers, distributors, wholesalers, and advertising and promotion agencies, and members of the immediate families (defined for these purposes as parents, spouse, children, siblings, grandparents, and each of their respective spouses, regardless of where they reside) or households (whether related or not) of any of the above are NOT eligible to participate. Proof of eligibility will be required.

2. Submission period of the contest begins on December 8th, 2010 and ends at 11:59:59 pm ET on January 25th 2011 (the Contest Period). Limit one Entry per Musician for the entire Contest period. By submitting an Entry, the Musician doing so represents and warrants that s/he has received permission to submit the recording(s) of the performance(s) that are included with the submitted Entry. The terms contestant or entrant as used herein shall refer to the person who actually submitted the Entry. To enter the Contest, follow the instructions at www.sonicbids.com/FULLRIDE to submit your completed Entry form along with a youtube link to an audiovisual work featuring performance of one original song written by entrant, no longer than six (6) minutes in length. All Entries, including all material submitted with the Entries shall be subject to the terms and conditions set forth in Section 10 herein as well as all other applicable provisions of these Official Rules. These Official Rules are intended, in part, to enable consumers to view and listen to Musicians submitted audiovisual song(s)/performance(s) at FULLRIDE.SONICBIDS.COM (Contest Website), a microsite hosted by the Sponsors and produced and powered by Sonicbids, Corporation (Sonicbids) for voting purposes in connection with this Contest (see voting details in Rule 5, below). The Entry form and all elements included with it, including your youtube link and all other required material, constitute and will be referred to herein collectively as an Entry. All Contest Entries must be received by 11:59:59 pm ET on January 25th, 2011. Proof of submission of an Entry will not be deemed proof of receipt by Sponsors or its agents. Entries must comply with all submission requirements and content restrictions described in Rule 9, below. Read all such requirements and restrictions carefully before you submit an Entry.

3. JUDGE QUALIFICATIONS. The judges (Judges) of the Contest include industry professionals chosen by Sponsor

JUDGING CRITERIA: The winning Entry will be selected based on the following factors: 25% of the weight shall be based upon the professional quality presentation as determined by the Judges in their sole discretion; 25% based upon the commercial viability/marketability of the Entry as determined by the Judges in their sole discretion; 25% based upon consistency of the Entry with Sponsors mission, as set forth below, as determined by the Judges in their sole discretion; and 25% based upon each Entrants performance, including an evaluation of rhythm, melody, mood and dynamic, as determined by the Judges in their sole discretion ("Judging Criteria"). The decisions of the Judges shall be final and binding.

5. Selection of Semi-Finalists, Finalists and Grand Prize Winner. A total of fifty (50) Semi-Finalists, at or around ten (10) Finalists and one (1) overall Grand Prize Winner will be chosen in a three-round process as follows:
Round 1: Initial Public Voting. Beginning at or around 12:00:01 PM ET on or around January 28th, 2011 and ending at 11:59:59 pm ET on February 11th, 2011 (the Initial Voting Period), any person may access FULLRIDE.SONICBIDS.COM and vote for Entries posted on the Website that are his/her favorites. Limit one (1) vote per Entry per person/ e-mail address per day. Voting will be subject to the terms of use of the Contest Website and to any additional voting instructions that may be posted on the Contest Website. All first round votes must be received by 11:59:59 pm ET on February 11th, 2011.

Any individual or group engaged in vote manipulation or fraudulent voting practices in violation of these Official Rules, including but not limited to the use of any robotic, automatic, mechanical, programmed or similar method to submit votes, may be in violation of criminal and civil laws and may be subject to legal action by Sponsors or its agents, and all votes submitted thereby will be disqualified. If Sponsors determines that a member of any Musician that is an entrant in the Contest is involved in such prohibited activity, all of that Musicians votes shall be deemed void, and the Musician and all members of it will be disqualified from the Contest and will not be eligible to receive a prize. WARNING: ANY ATTEMPT BY ANY PERSON TO UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSORS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

Following the conclusion of the Initial Public Voting Period, all valid votes received by each Musician will be counted. The fifty (50) Entries that receive the highest number of valid votes will be declared Semi-Finalists, and will advance to Round 2 of the selection process, as described below.

Round 2: Semi-Final Round. A group of judges as chosen by Sponsor will select a quantity from the top fifty (50) Entrants as determined by the Initial Voting Period. The judges will evaluate the Entries based on the criteria as explained in Section 4. Finalists selected through the judging in Round 2 will be notified by mail, email and/or telephone on or about February 16th, 2011 and will be announced to the public. All Finalists will advance to Round 3, described below. All decisions of the judges are final. In the event of a tie, the Musician with the highest score in commercial viability/marketability will be declared the Finalist. Sponsor reserves the right to select an alternate finalist(s) in the event that a selected finalist(s) are non-responsive or if they are deemed ineligible in reference to the contest rules herein. The selected finalists will advance to Round 3 of the selection process, as described below.

Round 3: Final Round. The top Entrants, as determined by the Semi-Final Round, will perform at a location on Sponsors campus on February 25th, 2011. Each finalist, and one parent or guardian if Entrant is a minor, will be provided with (i) roundtrip airfare to Los Angeles, CA or, if the finalist resides within 500 miles of Los Angeles, CA, the finalist will receive ground transportation to/from his/her place of residence to Los Angeles, CA, and (i) three nights hotel accommodations in a hotel in Los Angeles, CA selected by Sponsor. The Judges will select one winner (Winner), a first runner up (1st Runner Up) and a second runner up (2nd Runner Up, and collectively with the Winner and the 1st Runner Up, the Winners), each based upon the Judging Criteria.

6. Sponsors are not responsible for: (i) electronic transmissions/Entries/votes that are lost, late, stolen, incomplete, illegible, damaged, garbled, destroyed, misdirected or not received by Sponsors for any reason, (ii) any problems or technical malfunctions, errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects, delays in operation or transmission, communication failures or human error that may occur in the transmission, receipt or processing of Entries, or for destruction of or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, Entries, (iii) failed or unavailable hardware, network, software or telephone transmissions, damage to entrants or any persons computer and/or its contents, or causes beyond Sponsors reasonable control that jeopardize the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest, or (iv) any Entries submitted in a manner that is not expressly allowed under these rules; all such Entries will be disqualified. All incomplete or non-conforming Entries will be disqualified. If for any reason this Contest cannot be executed as planned, including but not limited to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsors that corrupt or affect the security, administration, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest, or if this Contest is compromised or becomes technically corrupted in any way, electronically or otherwise, Sponsors reserve the right to terminate this Contest. If the Contest is terminated before the original end date, Sponsors reserve the right to select, along with the panel of judges, Grand Prize Winner on the basis of the Round 2 judging criteria from among those eligible, non-suspect Entries already received as of the termination time/date. Sponsors reserve the right at their sole discretion to disqualify any entrant it finds to be tampering with or attempting to tamper with the Entry/voting process or the general operation of the Contest, to be acting in violation of these Official Rules, or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any other person or entrant.
Contest Prizes: The Winner will receive the following:
(i) A credit against full tuition, plus application and materials fees (but not including other required fees), for a single enrollment in Sponsors Spring 2011 Associate Degree or Certificate program as chosen by Winner.The approximate retail value of this prize is $45,000 to be paid out in tuition credit each quarter for up to 6 quarters as long as Winner maintains satisfactory academic progress.

(ii) Up to $10,000 in living expenses, payable in quarterly installments of $1,666.66 for up to 6 quarters for an Associate Degree or for the duration of a single Certificate program, as long as Winner maintains satisfactory academic progress. There will be no advances of future expense allocations. The approximate retail value of this prize is $10,000.00.

The 1st Runner Up will receive a credit against full tuition, plus application and materials fees (but not including required equipment fees), for a single enrollment in Sponsors Spring 2011 Associate Degree or Certificate program as chosen by 1st Runner Up. The approximate retail value of this prize is $45,000 to be paid out in tuition credit each quarter for up to 6 quarters as long as 1st Runner Up maintains satisfactory academic progress.

The 2nd Runner Up will receive a credit against 50% of full tuition, plus application and materials fees (but not including required equipment fees), for a single enrollment in Sponsors Spring 2011 Associate Degree or Certificate program as chosen by 2nd Runner Up. The approximate retail value of this prize is $22,500 to be paid out in 50% tuition credit each quarter for up to 6 quarters as long as 2nd Runner Up maintains satisfactory academic progress, with the 2nd Runner Up paying the remaining tuition balance at that time.

Prizes are intended to be applied to the ensuing Spring quarter starting April 4th, 2011. In the event that a winner cannot attend during the ensuing Spring quarter, the prize may be applied the following Fall quarter starting October 3rd, 2011. All prizes must be applied to one of the two start dates from listed herein. You must be able to attend classes starting on the aforementioned dates or you will be deemed ineligible.
Prizes may not be transferred, assigned, redeemed for cash or substituted, except that the Sponsors may substitute any prize or prize component with a prize or prize component of equal or greater value in the event the stated prize/component becomes unavailable. If a potential Finalist or the potential Grand Prize Winner cannot accept a prize as stated, the prize may be forfeited. All income taxes on the Prizes are the responsibility of the Musician, and an IRS Form 1099 will be issued and filed on behalf of each of the winning Musicians for his/her proportionate value of the Prize. All prizes will be awarded provided they are properly claimed in accordance with these Rules.
7. The decisions of the Sponsors and the judges are final and binding in all matters relating to this Contest. Any potential winning Musician (Finalist or Grand Prize) must comply fully with these Official Rules in order to be eligible to win and receive the designated prize. Sponsors will attempt to contact each such Finalist Musician by telephone, mail and/or e-mail within approximately five (5) days after the conclusion of the final judging process, and each will be required to complete, sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability Release, and a Publicity Release, within a stated time period, or the prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate Finalist Musician as explained above.
8. By accepting the Grand Prize, the winning Musician consents to the use of his/her name and/or likeness for advertising, public relations or trade purposes in connection with the Contest in any media worldwide without limitation or additional notice or compensation. Entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules, and by decisions of the judges. By entering, entrants agree to indemnify, release and hold harmless the Sponsors, the judges, and Sonicbids and each of their respective parent companies, directors, officers, employees and agents from and against any and all liability arising from or in connection with the Contest, or resulting from the acceptance and/or use of any prize they may be awarded or their participation in this Contest, or from any misuse, or malfunction of any prize awarded, including without limitation personal injury, death, and/or property damage.

9. Ownership/Use of Entries: Entrants retain ownership of the compositions, audiovisual works, and sound recordings they submit; however, by entering the Contest, each Musician member grants Sponsors a fully-paid, irrevocable, non-exclusive right and license through December 8th, 2011 to (a) publish, distribute, use, edit, display, reproduce, prepare derivate works of, distribute, exhibit, transmit, broadcast, televise, digitize, otherwise use, and permit others to use and perform throughout the world any or all of the content in your initial Entry, including without limitation all musical and lyrical compositions, sound recordings and audiovisual works, in any manner, form or format now known or hereinafter created, including on the internet without payment or further notice to or approval from the entrant without territorial, time, or other limitations, for any and all purposes, including, but not limited to, marketing, advertising, and promotional purposes; (b) use your name, image, likeness, artist/Musician name, and each of the respective images and likenesses for any and all purposes, including, but not limited to, marketing, advertising, and promotional purposes; and (c) record and produce media content, including, but not limited to, audio, video, and photographic images, of the performing Musician at, for, or during official Contest events. Entrants further agree that all licenses and rights granted under this section are on a gratis basis. Entrant represents and warrants that he or she has the authority to enter into and fully perform this Agreement and that by entering into and fully performing under this Agreement, Entrant is not in conflict with any prior obligations to third parties or does not violate or infringe upon the rights of any third parties.

10. Further Entry Requirements and Content Restrictions: All Entries must comply in all respects with the following requirements and content restrictions: Entry cannot be sexually explicit or suggestive or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender or religious group; Entry cannot promote alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing), Entry cannot be obscene or offensive, in the opinion of the Sponsors, and cannot endorse any form of hate or hate group; Entry cannot defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging remarks about Sponsors or its products, or other people, products or companies; Entry cannot contain copyrighted materials owned by others without permission of the owner(s); and Entry cannot communicate messages inconsistent with the positive messages and/or goodwill to which Sponsors wishes to associate. The right to submit or use an Entry must not be restricted in any way. By submitting an Entry you warrant and represent that: (a) it is Musicians original work and all lyrics and production are owned by Musician, (b) it has not been previously published, (c) it has not won previous awards, (d) it does not infringe upon the rights of any person or entity; and (d) Sponsors use of the Entry in any manner permitted hereunder will not infringe on any third- party rights. Entrants agree to indemnify and hold harmless, Sponsors from and against any claims to the contrary. Modifying, enhancing or altering a third partys preexisting work does not qualify as entrants original creation and will subject the entrant to disqualification. Cover songs or samples are not permitted for Entry or to be played live in any performances submitted as entries for this contest. Please note: Entries containing covers of copyrighted songs or songs containing samples will be disqualified and the corresponding Musician shall be ineligible for participation in this Contest. If an Entry does not conform to Contest requirements and all of these Official Rules in whole or in part, the Entry and the Musician that submitted it will be disqualified.

11. Participation in this Contest constitutes each entrant's full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. By entering, entrants further agree that all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Official Rules, entrants rights and obligations, or the rights and obligations of the Sponsors in connection with this Contest, will be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of Los Angeles County, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules. Each entrant further agrees to release, indemnify and hold the Sponsors, Sonicbids, and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries and promotion and advertising agencies, and the officers, directors and employees of each of the foregoing, harmless from and against any liability whatsoever for any claims or causes of action related to any asserted injuries, losses, or damages of any kind to persons or property, including without limitation copyright infringement, death, sustained, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, in connection with or resulting from acceptance, possession or use/misuse of the any prize that may be awarded, or participation in this Contest (including without limitation the submission of an Entry) or participation in any Contest-related activities. As a condition of entering, each entrant agrees that: (a) under no circumstances will such entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental, consequential or any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses; (b) any all causes of action arising out of or connected with this Contest, or any prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; and (c) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Contest, but in no event attorneys fees. Sponsors reserve the right to take such action as they deem necessary to enforce these Official Rules and ensure the fair operation of this Contest, including without limitation barring entrants who do not comply with these Official Rules. By entering, entrants consent to the jurisdiction and venue of the appropriate federal, state, and local courts located in Los Angeles County. By entering the Contest, you acknowledge that you are familiar with the provisions of California Civil Code Section 1542, which provides as follows:

A general release does not extend to claims which the creditor does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release, which if known by him or her must have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor.
Accordingly, by entering the Contest, you (on your behalf and on behalf of your heirs, executors, administrators, personal representatives, predecessors, successors and assigns of any of the foregoing, and all other persons and entities asserting rights of or acting on behalf of you) hereby waive and relinquish any right or benefit which you or such persons has, have or may have against Sponsor and the other Contest Parties under Section 1542 of the Civil Code of the State of California, or under any similar statutory or common law of any other jurisdiction to the full extent that any such person may lawfully waive such rights and benefits pertaining to the releases set forth in these Official Rules, the Terms & Conditions, Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy.
