Each selected artist will be granted up to 175 MB of space on the USB drive - enough for music, a one sheet, and/or video.

Submissions are open to any "world music" artists, including music from Africa, Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Pacific, and more. American roots music is also eligible.

Bands do not need to be showcasing at or attending WOMEX to be considered for the compilation. The normal fee for participation is $600, but one Sonicbids artist will be selected to participate at no additional charge. There will be 10-20 total artists on the Rock Paper Scissors USB Drive.

About Rock Paper Scissors:

Founder/CEO Dmitri Vietze has attended WOMEX for eleven years in a row and will be presenting at the 2010 conference.

About WOMEX:

WOMEX is THE conference for those in the business of world music: Concert presenters, festivals, agents, managers, labels, distributors, musicians, media, and more. While those attending in person will have the best networking and learning experience, artists can still get great benefit by getting their music into the ears of key attendees. Many musicians secure important deals while at WOMEX: licenses, distribution, booking, concerts, etc. and business at WOMEX can have ripple effects on artistsÂ’ careers for years to come. WOMEX rotates to a different European city every few years. The 2010 event will be held in Copenhagen and is expected to have 2700 delegates from over 90 countries, including 970 concert and festival bookers, over 760 labels, distributors, and publishers, and over 400 journalists.

Please note: Musicians must have the right to publish their music and video on a flash drive for promotional purposes. Any use of your music beyond the flash drive itself will need to be negotiated directly with interested parties. Selected artist will be given further details about what to include on the flash drive and where to send it.

If selected, artists will need to provide the following materials by September 15:

  • Latest album (or select tracks from your catalog overall) as a Zip file of MP3s

  • PDF one sheet with everything an agent, presenter, label, distributor, or journalist might need (contact info, etc)
  • Optional: One good live or produced music video (A live video is highly recommended if you are seeking concerts or agents)

The selected artist will receive 175 MB of total space. Please note the tight turnaround time.

Although distributed at WOMEX, Rock Paper Scissors is producing this USB drive. WOMEX is not involved in the production of the drive.
