The battle is open to a variety of genres including acoustic, alternative, Americana, avant-garde, country, folk, funk, goth, hip hop, rap, jam bands, metal, pop, punk, reggae, rock, singer/songwriter, soul, R&B, and world. The Gorilla Music BotB is open to contestants of all ages and expects an attendance of around 250. Selected bands are given presale tickets. There is no sale requirement to play however timeslots are determined by ticket sales and artists may keep any presale profits. Judging is based on audience response and applause at the end of the night. Check in for shows is strictly 90 minutes before performance time. The show takes place in Fitzgerald's.
