The Great Lakes Songwriting Contest 2011

The eighth annual Great Lakes Songwriting Contest is now open to all songwriters everywhere. The Grand Prize winner will receive $1000 cash, $300 Gift certificate to Elderly Instruments, a 4-hour recording session, a 6-Month Platinum Membership to SongU.com and more.



The Great Lakes Songwriting Contest welcomes all types of music; country, rock, Christian and Gospel, blues, hip-hop, folk, instrumental, and all the hybrids./n/nThe story of the Great Lakes Songwriting Contest begins in 2003, when a group of Detroit-area songwriters took on the mission of promoting the great original music from our area of the world. They went from hosting a local contest to hosting a statewide contest, and finally to organizing the Great Lakes Songwriting Contest.



The Great Lakes Songwriting Contest welcomes all types of music; country, rock, Christian and Gospel, blues, hip-hop, folk, instrumental, and all the hybrids. They don’t make you pick a category when you enter your songs. (No one likes to be put in a box, and no one wants to have to enter each song in multiple categories, for multiple fees!) A great song is a great song, regardless of the genre.



In the past, the winning songs have been about a wide variety of topics: Love lost and love won, angels, politics, mechanical hands, and we're-not-sure-what. There have been story songs, happy songs, sad songs, angry rants, and instrumentals.



Sonicbids and GLSC are giving away a 6-month Supersonic membership to one of the first 50 submitting artists!

Past judges for the competition include Berklee songwriting teacher and author Andrea Stolpe; Freebo, songwriter and long-time bass player for Bonnie Raitt; Rich Warren, host of the syndicated Midnight Special radio show; and Michael ("Smokin' in the Boys Room") Lutz.
