Music lovers from across the globe travel to Halifax to enjoy countless top-quality acts in the jazz, blues, world, roots and avant-garde genres. 100-125 performance slots are available, and compensation is negotiable. Hotel accommodations are provided to some artists through the festival's host hotel, and those artists paying for their own accommodations are encouraged to use that hotel in order to receive a significant discount. The festival will often arrange the booking of accommodations even for those artists who are paying for their own accommodations.

Past performers include: Holly Cole, Kenny Garrett, Bill Frisell, John Abercrombie, Arturo Sandoval, Mose Allison, Afro Cuban All Stars, Hugh Masekela and so many more.

Overview of Performance Venues/Stages:

There will be an outdoor main stage, a main indoor soft-seater, and a varying number of smaller venues such as art galleries, performance spaces, cathedrals, nightclubs, an official late night club venue and a handful of works.

About the Jazz Festival:

The Festival has grown significantly - from its grassroots beginnings in 1987 to the world-class festival it has become - entertaining over 65,000 fans while retaining its casual, intimate character and staying true to its community roots. Their mandate is to present the highest quality live jazz, blues, world and roots music in the spirit of collaboration and improvisation.

Note: if artists are not sure whether their music fits HJF's programming, they should include a message describing why they believe their music fits HJF's mandate.
