Indie Excellence - Compilation CD

"Indie Excellence" is a celebration of the singularity and scope of independent music. The compilation CD will be internationally distributed in both retail outlets (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc) and online download sites (iTunes, Rhapsody, MSN, etc). It will also be internationally promoted by way of solicited mailing to more than 500 radio stations throughout the world. After providing us with a mixed copy of their song, all selected artists will receive free post-production and mastering of their music. All artwork and materials (promotional posters, etc.) will be professionally designed. The discs will be manufactured either in a digipak or six-panel jewel case with vibrant color, glossy artwork, shrink-wrap, and a barcode. The final product will be 2,500 retail-ready discs that can proudly be sold in boutiques and coffee shops just as comfortably as in major retail chains.

"Indie Excellence" is for artists of all genres and should be considered a showcase of independent music as a whole. The album is intended to be a true snapshot of the evolution of the various genres of independent music while simultaneously celebrating individual artists who write their own original material and maintain a professional or unique image.

We will reserve eight slots on the disc exclusively for Sonicbids artists! Selected artists will each receive 10 copies of the shrink-wrapped disc that they may sell or give as promotional copies to friends. Further copies can be purchased directly from the manufacturer at wholesale cost. Additionally, artists will receive royalty compensation through both online downloads and physical distribution in retail stores. For albums sold through online downloads, the traditional artist share, per our contracts, is in the range of $.50 per download, per song, which is one of the highest "direct-to-artist" payment ratios around. Through physical distribution in retail stores, each artist will receive royalty payments directly from Protocol Records that will be an equally divided portion of the profits resulting from those sales.

Protocol Records was founded in 1996 by Brian Larsen, originally as the host for Larsen’s band Twilight Moon. The label has since rapidly expanded to become a widely recognized, internationally distributed label with six RIAA sales awards and more than 4,000,000 downloads to its artists' credit. "Indie Excellence" is an opportunity for Protocol Records to use its expansive list of contacts in print and radio to help achieve greater exposure for all artists selected for the disc.
