Summary

“Jamesy Boy” is compelling and emotionally intoxicating film about hope and redemption based on the true story on one teenager’s experience while facing life in a broken home. Directed by Trevor White, and starring James Woods (“Ghosts Of Mississippi” “Citizen Cohn” “Scary Movie 2”), Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds” “West Wing” “The Spiderwick Chronicles” Ving Rhames (“Pulp Fiction” “Mission: Impossible III”), and Taboo (“The Black-Eyed Peas” “Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li”), the film is currently in post production. It is looking for songs to add to the movie's soundtrack. Artists can submit up to 3 songs for consideration.

The artists / songwriters may receive negotiable sync fees plus applicable performance royalties if placed, based on the usage in the film. Writers must be registered with a performance rights organization (ex. ASCAP, BMI, SESAC) to receive performance royalties. This listing is for a "Direct Placement." Selected artists will work directly with decision makers for possible inclusion in the film.

The film needs the following music:

  • Urban Folk Vibe songs – focus artist style is CITIZEN COPE – temp songs “Holdin’ On”, “D’Artangan’s Theme”, “Sideways”, “Penitentiary”, "Lifeline" -- match the vibe and the production/sonic approach – lyrics can be general, but a plus if about life, life on the street, struggles, overcoming, redemption, prison (literal or metaphorical), family, dreams of a better future.

  • General Urban Folk songs – sample artists Everlast, Matt Kearney, Wilco, Color Revoult

  • Street Hip-Hop – nothing too heavy sounding – any lyrical themes (street but not too gangsta) - think Nas, Lil Wayne, Drake

Plot summary:

Jamesy Boy is a compelling and emotionally intoxicating film about hope and redemption based on the true story on one teenager’s experience while facing life in a broken home. From being raised by his troubled mother (Mary-Louise Parker) to a life with suburban street gangs, to ending up in a maximum-security prison - the story is told with two parallel story lines: In the first, a 14-year-old James has recently been released from a juvenile rehabilitation program. Still barred from being accepted by society as a normal teenager, he finds shelter with a neighborhood drug dealer. Balancing the dangers and excitement of the streets with his new ‘family’, he makes a major mistake – which we see played out in 18-year-old James behind bars. Fostering unique relationships, with a local good girl, a convicted murderer (Ving Rhames), a prison rival (Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas) and the warden (James Woods), his life is altered through a mentored path into becoming a writer, leading him to a window of redemption. The fighter becomes a dreamer, and once paroled back into reality, Jamesy Boy saves money for a move to a new life. Determined to not become another statistic, he proves his freedom is worth it - there is hope after all.
