The event will showcase a variety of emerging artists in the popular Jazz Café before each Main Stage performance.

Four Sonicbids artists are guaranteed to perform at the café, with an emphasis on vocalists. The selected artists will receive $1,000 USD for travel and accommodations. The festival will also provide artists with international promotional opportunities through press releases, the jazz festival website, radio and print interviews by festival staff and possibly the selected artists themselves.

Submitting artists must provide a link to a video of themselves performing. Selections are made by the Jazz Café Judging Panel, which includes James Gavin, author of Stormy Weather: The Life of Lena Horne; Lois Gilbert, owner of , one of the top premier destinations for jazz on the Internet; Christopher Loudon, jazz vocalist writer for Jazz Times magazine; Jane Monheit, one of the world's premiere vocal interpreters; Steve Schwartz, host and producer, Jazz on WGBH with Steve Schwartz, WGBH Boston; Dawn Singh, Manager of the Tanglewood Jazz Festival; and Sachal Vasandani, jazz vocalist and veteran of the Tanglewood Jazz Cafe.

Headliners for 2010 include: Kurt Elling, the Laurence Hobgood Trio, the Legendary Count Basie Orchestra, Eddie Daniels, Bob James, Donal Fox, John Pizzarelli, Julian Lage and special guests to be announced in the near future.

Past Jazz Café performers included: Esperanza, Sachal Vasandani, Grace Kelly, Aaron Parks, Mina Agossi, Rachael Price, Kat Edmonson, Michael Kaeshammer, Taylor Eigsti, Julian Lage, Spencer Day, Warren Wolf, Benny Reid and others.


The Jazz Café is a sophisticated, elegant outdoor venue, serving food and beverage in a cabaret-style setting. Capacity within the tent is about 200 and there is additional seating just outside the tent of approximately 100. Twenty artists perform at the event, each set lasting approximately 50 minutes.

The Tanglewood Jazz Festival is produced by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The festival is located in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts, approximately 2-1/4 hours west of Boston or 2 hours from New York.
