Kung Food Express Café is the latest manifestation of the growing trend in healthful eating and living that is centered on plant-based food. Kung Food Express Café uses biodegradable cutlery, plates, and bowls. Since Kung Food's waste food scraps are given to local farmers for composting, and the sun heats the warm water they use to scrub their pots and pans, a purchase at Kung Food is a vote for environmentally aware, yet cost-effective business practices.



Kung Food is looking for intimate performances from acoustic performing artists, as well as non-musical performance art and spoken word. Jazz acts that can play with little or no amplification are also encouraged to submit. There is a 15-foot stage with seating for 50 on the intimate, outdoor patio of this vegan, organic restaurant. Compensation is usually negotiated during the selection process and/or after booking. A local draw is not necessary for booking, and acts from all areas are accepted. Artists not from the area who are traveling through the area and want to perform a unique, quiet and intimate spot are encouraged to submit.



Kung Food Express Café has a rich history. This wonderful space used to house the original Kung Foods, a vegetarian restaurant started in the 1970s. Kung Foods evolved into the Vegetarian Zone and became a well-known destination for healthy dining. After 20 years of serving the San Diego community, the Vegetarian Zone closed its doors and remained vacant, awaiting further evolution.
