Summary

As pretty much the only game in town (Potsdam, NY -- a college town in Northern New York about twenty minutes from the Canadian border, an hour and a half from Ottawa, two hours from Syracuse and Montreal, three hours from Burlington VT) as far as booking regional musical acts goes, La Casbah has a strong and growing regular clientele looking to hear live music.

La Casbah is looking for artists from most all genres, but especially those that depart from the standard classic rock/bar-band model. There are a number of venues in the area that feature such music exclusively and La Casbah is perfectly content to let them handle that niche. They would prefer acts that are trying to reach a wider range of audiences with their music and will work to find those audiences to make up an enthusiastic crowd for any artist who plays their venue.

Though La Casbah has not offered guarantees in the past, but they offer artists 100% of the door and allow you to set your entry price at whatever you decide is appropriate. With a capacity of roughly 200, this makes for earning potential of between $500 (for a $3 cover) to over $2000 (with a $10 cover, probably as high as the local standards would sustain for anything except a big-name act). Artists receive a complimentary dinner at the attached Moroccan restaurant and drinks before and during the show as part of an informal rider.

They have numerous connections with local media outlets who help them do advance promotion for shows and have had a strong track record of bringing crowds out for bands who have not played the area before. The four colleges in the area especially help the draw during the school year, but even in the summertime with enough lead-time they can find the audience for musicians of most every genre among the population of Northern New York.

They prefer to book anywhere from a month to three months in advance and are not averse to booking multiple shows ahead of time, although they prefer to space them at least a month or more apart.

La Casbah has a full PA and sixteen channel mixing board available for use as well as two banks of stage lights and a mixing controller. They have a sound engineer on call available (usually for a 20% cut of the door), who will help from soundcheck through breakdown if desired. They also welcome bands who wish to use their own equipment and personnel in these capacities, but do request advance notice thereof.
