Summary

Please note, while we encourage submissions year-round, we generally do not start booking opening acts for our series until late February. Keep this in mind as you submit your EPK.

The Lowell Summer Music Series occurs each summer from early July through mid-September at Boarding House Park at French and John Streets in the Downtown Historic District in Lowell, MA. The Series was founded in 1990 and is presented by The Lowell National Historical Park, the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the Lowell Festival Foundation. Total audience for the 2005 Series was 30,548 across 32 shows.

Most shows consist of two sets of one hour each by the headliner. We only book national headliners. Some shows do require an opening act consistent with the headliner’s musical style.

Fees for opening acts are $100 but we do not take a percentage of opening act merchandise sales. Since our audiences are usually in the 1,000-2,000 range, the opportunity is mostly for exposure. It is anticipated that we will
hire about five opening acts for the upcoming Season. We generally prefer New England-based openers.

Twenty-two Evening Concerts are presented plus ten free Children’s Shows. Evening Concert admissions vary from $20, $15, $10, $5 to free. Children age 12 and under are admitted to all shows. National Park Rangers are on duty and no alcohol is allowed in order to assure a family-friendly atmosphere. Tickets are be available at 40 Strawberries Music and Video Stores throughout New England as well as on our website.

Genres accepted include: folk, bluegrass, blues, oldies, roots music and world music. We do not book classical, punk, alternative rock, jazz, hip hop, urban R&B, pop or country.

Past performers include:

Keb’ Mo’, America, Dr. John, Little Feat, Fabulous Thunderbirds, Livingston Taylor, Richie Havens, Ellis Paul, Dar Williams, Sha Na Na, Martha & the Vandellas, Eric Burdon & the Animals, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Buckwheat Zydeco and many more!
