M.A.L.I. Woman's Film & Performance Arts Festival 2009: Open Call



Running for it's 9th year, The 2009 M.A.L.I. Women’s Film & Performance Arts Festival (formerly known as the Austin Woman's Film, Music & Literary Festival) is having an open call for women musicians, filmmakers, dancers, spoken word artists, and workshop presenters, to submit their work. This festival is wholly focused on the contributions of all women, with a special emphasis on women of Latin, African-American, Asian, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, and Indigenous descent.



This year’s event dates are May 28th - 31st , 2009. All bands must be comprised of at least half (50%) women. Early entry fee is $15.00 and must be submitted by January 31st, 2009. Regular fee is $20.00 and must be submitted by March 31, 2009. The price will increase to $25 per submission after April 1st, through April 6th, 2009 which is the final submission deadline. There will also be a $2,000.00 cash giveaway for the "Best Of The Fest.”



M.A.L.I.’s Open Stage Showcase includes 20 showcase slots, of which at least 10 will be available to Sonicbids artists. Showcase performances may run between 10- 25 minutes as a short showcase or as a full length showcase of 45 minutes in any of the following genres: acoustic, electronic/dance/DJ, rock, jazz, hip hop, r&b, latin, blues, world, funk, spoken word (with music), singer/songwriter, classical, and reggae.



This is a non- profit event supported by Blowin' Up A Spot! Community Studio, the City Of Austin, and the Texas Commission of the Arts. Proceeds will benefit the Media Arts & Literacy Institute programs for at-risk teen girls and women.

Terms And Conditions


This festival is wholly focused on the contributions of all women, with a special emphasis on women of Latin, African-American, Asian, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, and Indigenous descent. All bands must be fifty percent (%50) women. That means women-born-women. Entry fee is $15.00 and must be submitted by January 31st, 2009. General entry fee is $25.00 and must be submitted by April 6th 2009, which is the final submission deadline.
