Get a chance to play with the legendary DJ Krush from Japan, Thursday September 23rd on the main stage at Axis Nightclub in Boston. This is an incredible psychedelic, multi-media event featuring the biggest trip hop/breakbeat DJ in the world. Your set will be to close the evening following Krush, for all those that want to dance out the rest of their energy. This show kicks off Krush's 30-date U.S. tour. This is open to DJs and genres of electronica. The winner will be notified no later than midnight, Tuesday, September 21st.

DJ Krush will be joined by Matters & Dunaway, Tym Ryan - and the selected Sonicbids artist.

DJ Krush is one of the founders of trip hop--this is mainly lounge-y, downtempo electronica, though it can be more uptempo and usually uses a lot of breaks (funky electronic beats with a little more rhythm than drum'n'bass). Its name derives from the fact that these tracks are very commonly spun by hip hop DJs while an MC raps over the tracks. However, it is a musical genre within itself, and these songs sound terrific with or without an MC. Most of the biggest trip hop acts spin without an MC, or just bring in an MC for a few songs. The latest album, Jaku, was just released this month. It's very uptempo, an organic/ethnic vibe with incredibly funky breaks. In the opinion of this writer is the best Krush CD to date. More information about Krush can be found on his website:

Matters & Dunaway has been creating a buzz in Boston despite not playing a public show since November of 2002. That's because they are one of the only American acts that produce electronica on the level of the British producers that dominate the scene. Their sound is a hybrid of what you would expect off of the labels Warp & Thrill Jockey: Boards of Canada-like ambient keyboards with uptempo live drums & bass. They have taken their serious organic drum'n'bass vibe to a triumphant, rock-influenced sound on their latest release, Hightech. Quintessential live electronica that will gradually morph into trip hop to make a smooth transition into DJ Krush.

Tym Ryan will warm it up with his brand of psychedelic lounge music that makes him a favorite at Boston's only legal after-hours, Rise.

The selected Sonicbids artist will closing things down.

The show will also feature the reknowned MaxxHaze visual show, interactive movies on screens on both sides of the stage. VJs Massta and Zebbler from the Glitch crew will be the ones laying down the eye candy.
