The Paris Blues Society’s Memphis or Bust 2011 Regional Blues Challenge will take place at Buffalo Joe’s Pub in Paris, Texas on Saturday, October 15, 2011. This will be the third year for the Paris Blues Society to producing the event.

The winner will receive:

  • Entry into the 28th International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 through Saturday, February 4, 2012

  • Hotel rooms (one room per every two band members) and fuel fees ($100)

The competition will be a head-to-head battle of the blues bands with our panel of judges scoring on blues content, vocal skills, instrumental skills, originality and stage presence (for a more detailed description of the scoring criteria look on the Blues Foundations website at www.parisbluessociety.com).

The judges will lean toward traditional blues – blues rock will not score well. Each participating band will get one 30 minute set to impress our judges.

The Paris Blues Society will provide backline and sound. The setup on stage will include a drum kit with snare drum, amps, and mics. Drummers should bring their own cymbals and kick pedals (Yes, you will need your cymbals, you might want to bring your own snare too) and harmonica players CAN (but are not required) bring their own harp amp. Keyboard players must bring their own keyboards, keyboard amps, and stands. Competitors are prohibited from bringing their own amplifiers (harp amps and keyboard amps being the only exceptions).

The Paris Blues Society is a Texas nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in June of 2007. The Paris Blues Society was established for the sole purpose of promoting and preserving blues music. It is our mission to ensure the continuation of blues music, in part by offering educational programs within our community. We support blues venues and blues artists through our promotional efforts and participation in blues-related activities and events, and by encouraging our community to appreciate the historical value and the enjoyment of blues music. The Paris Blues Society hosts jam sessions, local and national groups in concert and participates in local community events throughout the year.
