MIDEM, the world’s music market, is unequalled in the business of music. With 39 years of experience, Midem has a rich history of launching artists’ careers. No other single event in the world can boast providing potential access to an audience of 9,000 music professionals from 94 countries. For the 2005 edition, MIDEM has teamed up with Sonicbids to offer Midem 2005 clients the unique opportunity to get their acts onstage during the tradeshow and in front of the professional audience. On the evenings of January 24 & 25, 8 selected groups will play "Live Upstairs at Midem 2005" in the Palais des Festivals’ Salle Méditerranée, Cannes, France.

1) Presentation of the offer - "Live Upstairs at Midem 2005": A new opportunity for international acts of all genres and styles to perform live at MIDEM, the world’s music market - 23-27 January 2005, Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France. In association with Sonicbids, "Live Upstairs at Midem 2005" is a series of private showcases during the Midem market to be held from 8:00pm to 12:00am on January 24 and 25, 2005.


  • All requests to perform at "Live Upstairs at Midem 2005" are submitted via the Sonicbids website (please see conditions)

  • All requests go through a selection process

  • Up to a maximum of 8 acts will be selected to perform

  • The selection process will be undertaken by Midem and will be based on artistic quality

  • All acts will be informed of their status by the end of November 2004

  • The time and date of each individual showcase will be allocated by Midem

  • The deadline for submissions is November 10, 2004

2) Conditions for submitting an act:
Submissions must be made online via the Sonicbids website. To submit an artist/group:

  • The person or company submitting the artist or group must subscribe to Sonicbids (All submission fees are non-refundable)

  • The artist/group must be signed with a label

  • The artist/group must have a verifiable experience of 3 live performances

  • The artist/group must have no more than 5 artists onstage

  • Each artist must be 18 years old or over

  • The artist/group must be available to perform at "Live Upstairs at Midem 2005" in Cannes, France on the 2 dates allocated for the showcases

  • The artist/group must sign a contract with MIDEM before their performance at “Live Upstairs at Midem 2005” (for French administrative purposes and to be able to be paid the legal salary by Midem)

3) What Midem offers - "Live Upstairs at Midem 2005": 24th and 25th January 2005 – 8:00pm to 12:00am - Salle Méditerranée, Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France



  • A 45 minute time slot for a private showcase (with a maximum of 5 artists) during the Midem

  • Venue: The Salle Méditerranée, Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France with an approximate capacity of 300 people

  • Basic equipment (lighting and sound)

  • Technical staff

  • Line-check

  • Basic catering

  • Dressing room

  • Ground transportation (Nice airport/hotel/Nice airport/venue)

  • 1 night in a 3 star hotel with a maximum of 3 rooms per band (6 people) – continental breakfast included (2 nights for bands whose country of residence is outside Europe – on a one-by-one basis)

  • A basic legal salary per performing artist (80 EUR- eighty euros – per performing artist) and the administrative papers involved (this involves each performing artist signing a contract with Midem)

  • A mention of the showcase with the artist’s/group’s name in a global “Live Upstairs at Midem 2005” advertising page to appear in the Midem official pre-market magazine “The Midem Preview” sent to all participants who have registered before 15 December 2004

  • A mention of the showcase with the artist’s/group’s name in a global “Live Upstairs at Midem 2005” advertising page to appear in the Midem official magazine “The Midem Daily News” distributed on the day of the their showcase to the entire Midem market

  • Listing of the showcase with the artist’s/group’s name in the official Midem programs and schedules, notably: www.midem.com, Pre-schedule in the Midem Preview magazine, onsite official Midem program of events, official “mini-program”, poster on the day of the event, daily schedule in the official Midem daily News on the day of the event…

  • The inclusion of the artist’s/group’s biography/discography on www.midem.com

  • Signposting for the venue within the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France

  • Free access to the Midem market for the performing artist/group for the day of the showcase (maximum five people)

  • Free access to the Midem market for the artist/group’s agent or manager for the day of the showcase (one person only)

4) Financial and administrative conditions



  • The artist/group must subscribe to Sonicbids if not already a member (All submission fees are non-refundable)

  • The artist/group must accept to participate in the financial costs of the production of the showcase for the sum of 2,500€ before taxes (two thousand five hundred euros exclusive of French VAT at 19.6%) per showcase (only payable if their submission is selected)

  • accept to register to Midem 2005 if their submission is selected (cost 850€ before taxes)

  • The artist/group must cover all transport costs for themselves and the artist/group to and from Nice, France

  • The artist/group must obtain visas for themselves and the artist/group

  • The artist/group must ensure that each performing artist signs a contract with MIDEM before their performance at “Live Upstairs at Midem 2005” (for French administrative purposes and to enable the artist/group to be paid the legal salary by Midem
