Official Showcases - MIDEM Talent Only

Sunday January 27 – Wednesday January 30, 2008 - Cannes, France



MIDEM, the world’s music market, is unequalled in the business of music. With 42 years of experience, MIDEM has a rich history of launching artists’ careers. No other single event in the world can boast providing potential access to an audience of 9,500 music professionals from 90 countries. For the 2008 edition, MIDEM has teamed up with Sonicbids to offer MIDEM clients the unique opportunity to get their acts onstage during the tradeshow and in front of the professional audience.



From January 27 to January 30, a selection of bands will be presented at the new MIDEM Talent Only venue from midday to 3.00pm and from 7.00pm to midnight. There will be around 20 performances for Sonicbids artists.

1) Presentation of the offer: An opportunity for international acts of all genres and styles to perform at MIDEM, Cannes, France.

• All requests to perform at MIDEM Talent Only venue are submitted via the Sonicbids website (see conditions)
  
• All requests go through a selection process
  
• The selection process will be undertaken by MIDEM and will be based on artistic merit
  
• Several cycles of showcases will be held in the framework of other sponsorships or of specific artistic directions from January 27 to 30
  
• The submission opening date is September 1, 2007
  
• The deadline for submissions is October 31, 2007
  
• All acts will be informed of their status by the end of November 2007
  
• The time and date of each individual showcase will be allocated by MIDEM

2) Conditions for submitting an act: Submissions must be made online via the Sonicbids website. To submit an artist/group:

• The person or company submitting the artist or group must subscribe to Sonicbids (All submission fees are non-refundable)
  
• The artist/group must be signed to a label
  
• The artist/group must have a verifiable experience of 10 live performances
  
• The artist/group must have no more than 7 artists onstage
  
• Each artist must be 18 years old or over
  
• The artist/group must be available to perform at MIDEM Talent Only in Cannes, France on the date allocated for the showcases
  
• The artist/group must sign a contract with MIDEM before their performance at MIDEM Talent Only (for French administrative purposes and to be paid the legal salary by MIDEM)

4) What MIDEM offers - MIDEM Talent Only: a selection of slots from January 27 to January 30, 2008 – midday to 3.00pm and 7.00pm to midnight, Cannes, France

• A 30-minute slot for a private showcase (with a maximum of 7 artists/musicians) during MIDEM
  
• Venue: MIDEM Talent Only venue (capacity : 450)
  
• Basic equipment (lighting and sound)
  
• Technical staff
  
• Line-check
  
• Basic catering
  
• Dressing room
  
• Ground transportation (Nice airport/hotel/Nice airport/venue)
  
• One night’s hotel accommodation and continental breakfast in a 3* hotel for all acts whose place of residence is within Europe; two nights for artists whose place of residence is outside Europe. A room sharing policy is applied but each act is considered individually.
  
• A basic legal salary per performing artist: approximately €95 (ninety-five euros) per performing artist and €69 (sixty-nine euros) per technician (with all proper reserves regarding legal employer contributions 2008) and the administrative papers involved (this involves each performing artist/technician signing a contract with MIDEM)
  
• A mention of the showcase with the artist’s/group’s name in a global MIDEM Talent Only advertising page to appear in the MIDEM official pre-market “Preview” magazine, sent to all participants who have registered before December 21 2008
  
• A mention of the showcase with the artist’s/group’s name in a global MIDEM Talent Only advertising page to appear in the MIDEM official daily magazine “The News” distributed on the day of their showcase to the entire MIDEM market
  
• Listing of the showcase with the artist’s/group’s name in the official MIDEM programmes and schedules, notably: www.midem.com, pre-schedule in “Preview” magazine, onsite official MIDEM programme of events, official “mini-programme”, poster on the day of the event, daily schedule in “The News” on the day of the event, roll-up on the day of the event…
  
• The inclusion of the artist’s/group’s biography/discography and professionals goals on the new matchmaking website, MIDEMworld
  
• Signposting for the venue
  
• Free registration to the MIDEM market for the performing artist/group (maximum seven people)
  
• Free registration to the MIDEM market for the artist/group’s Tour Manager (one person only)
  
• Listing of the artist/group’s manager in the MIDEM guide 2008
  

5) Financial and administrative conditions

• The artist/group must subscribe to Sonicbids if not already a member (All submission fees are non-refundable)
  
• The artist/group must accept to participate in the financial costs of the production of the showcase for the sum of €1,700 before taxes (one thousand seven hundred euros exclusive of French VAT at 19.6%) per showcase (only payable if their submission is selected)
  
• The artist’s label’s representative accepts to register for MIDEM 2008 if the submission is selected (cost from €805 in October to €1,075 onsite before taxes)
  
• The artist/group must cover all transport costs for themselves and the artist/group to and from Nice, France
  
• The artist/group must obtain visas for themselves and the artist/group
  
• The artist/group must ensure that each performing artist signs a contract with MIDEM before their performance (for French administrative purposes and to enable the artist/group to be paid the legal salary by MIDEM)
