NBC Universal is looking for music for their following series:

ROYAL PAINS:

  • Summary: Royal Pains centers on a young E.R. doctor who, after being wrongly blamed for a patient's death, moves to the Hamptons and becomes the reluctant "doctor for hire" to the rich and famous.

  • Music Brief: A good starting point is any song that makes you feel like you're on vacation. The show takes place in a pseudo-fantasy never-ending-summer type of environment in the illustrious Hamptons of New York. Feel good indie music with acoustic and electronic sounds are both welcome here, with some singer-songwriter appropriate for the tender moments.

SUITS:

  • Summary: On the run from a drug deal gone bad, Mike Ross, a brilliant college-dropout, finds himself a job working with Harvey Specter, one of New York City's best lawyers.

  • Music Brief: NBC Universal tends to have a few different styles of music on this show, each attributed to one of the main characters. This include retro-style soul, R&B and blues (i.e. Cee Lo, Charles Bradley, Raphael Saadiq); indie rock (i.e. Vampire Weekend, Peter Bjorn & John, Foster The People, Kaiser Chiefs, Black Keys); and blues-induced rock or something more modern with a dance beat (i.e. "Verve Remixed" collection).

IN PLAIN SIGHT

  • Summary: U.S. Marshall Mary Shannon must hunt down witnesses for federal cases in the witness protection program while also raising a rather dysfunctional family and her own personal life.

  • Music Brief: This show focuses on a female lead. Featured music usages tend to be used more poignantly, typically occurring at the end of the episode when the moral of the story is revealed and our lead, Mary, has a chance to reflect on her life. Recent past uses have leaned more in the female vocal direction. Some examples of artists that have worked in the past are Early Winters (Carina Round), Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, and Priscilla Ahn to name a few.

BEING HUMAN

  • Summary: This Syfy series is about a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost all trying to assimilate into the real world like regular folks...thus "being human". It's a US re-interpretation of the British series.

  • Music Brief: Music selections reflect the darker themes of the show, although NBC Universal tend to primarily use mid-tempo indie rock so they don't take away from the underlying humor and fun that often permeates the story lines. Some artists that have been featured for a good point of reference are Early Winters, Royal Wood, The High Dials, Sea Wolf, Suuns, Kathryn Calder and the Pack A.D.
