The Mississippi Sound CoOperative is a Mississippi based recording studio which is now accepting submissions from Sonicbids artists for their Songwriting Competition. The studio is offering a grand prize of two full (8 hour) days of production and recording with Grammy Winning Artist/Producer Jimbo Mathus (below) at Delta Recording in Como, MS just south of Memphis. The Grand prize also includes a $500 travel stipend, lodging at the historic Victorian Home of renowned sculptress Sharon McConnell, and dinner with Jimbo Mathus and the Mississippi Sound CoOperative AR/ Production Staff at the Windy City Grille in Como, MS.

Guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and producer Jimbo Mathus grew up in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He first caught the public’s ear in the 1990s with the hyper-ragtime vaudeville act, The Squirrel Nut Zippers. Since then, he's released many recordings of his own in a style he describes as Mississippi Music. Basically, Mathus says, “I combine the myriad styles of deep roots music in a type of alchemy. Blues, country, gospel and soul all go into the equation equally.”

Mathus played a key role in Buddy Guys Sweet Tea (2001) and Grammy winning Blues Singer (2004) as guitarist and arranger. As a Producer, he runs the Delta Recording Service, a studio based in Como, MS and is sought out by many artists seeking the old school style of recording. One such artist was Elvis Costello, who recorded his Grammy nominated Monkey to Man single in Mathus studio in 2005.

In addition to the grand prize winner, The Top nine songs will receive a written review by Jimbo Mathus and Acknowledgement on our site. The judges will pick a winner based on originality, melody, composition and lyrics. The quality of the recording will not be a consideration of the judges. This is a great opportunity for any artist to receive top tier recording time with a world renowned producer.
