Summary

The Mixtape Awards, the first national awards ceremony for DJs, was created to bring recognition to the most influential DJs in the world. This unique award ceremony brings thousands of DJ’s to a forum, attracting celebrities, tastemakers and fortune 500 companies. This listing is for 2 nomination categories:

  • Street Album of the Year: This Justo goes to an Artist that releases a Mixtape Street Album that consists of 10 original songs. Artists must upload 3 songs on their Sonicbids submission, and the top 25 (as voted by the mixtape team and the general public) will be required to mail in the full CD. There are 2 reserved slots for Sonicbids artists for this category. Last year's inaugural "Street Album Of The Year" award was a huge success, as the award went to Harlem's own Mr. Crisis, "Terror Alert Pt.2 - Line 'em up, I knock 'em down". Now in its 2nd year, the "Street Album of the Year" category will be bigger than ever. Prizes for this category are TBA.

  • College DJ of the Year: **Submissions are now closed for college DJ of the Year (3/16/09)** This Justo goes to future rising stars for creating a buzz on their college campus. There are 3 reserved slots for Sonicbids artists for this category. The criteria will be based upon range of music, music exclusives, crowd participation, crowd motivation and marketability. The winner will receive a Justo Award and cash prizes.

The 12th annual Mixtape Awards will take place on April 29, 2009 at an undisclosed location in NYC. Previous Awards Ceremonies have attracted celebrities, industry execs, and artists such as P. Diddy, 50 Cent, Common, Fat Joe, Mehki Phifer, Lil Kim, Red Man, Kevin Liles President of Warner Music Group, Wu-Tang Clan, Rob Stone CEO of Cornerstone/Fader Magazine, Grandmaster Flash, Gang Star, George Nelson Urban Editor for Billboard, Bill Duke, Kay Slay, Funkmaster Flex, Kid Capri, DJ Red Alert and numerous others. This will be the awards eleventh successful year.

Please note: Every Street Album of the Year submission needs to have at least 10 tracks. Songs may either be over beats originally intended for that artist OR sampled beats. Production credits MUST be listed for any and all instrumentals sampled. Each submission is listened to by the Mixtape committee and staff, and the promotion of the "street album" is also taken into consideration, so get your promo game up!
