Summary

MNB Week 2007 is a four day music industry conference, artist development and showcase event where artists, managers and music industry professionals from New Brunswick will be invited to participate in seminars, workshops and showcases throughout the weekend of May 17 – 20, 2007. This opportunity is open exlusively to artists born or currently residing in New Brunswick.

The objective of the MNB Week’s annual industry and community event is to support Music/Musique NB Inc’s long-term goal, which is to promote the New Brunswick Music Industry through increased peer and artist recognition and to develop the industry in the areas of business opportunities, recording, and professional development.

MNB Week 2003 was the first major showcase and conference event hosted by Music/Musique NB Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the fostering and development of the province’s music industry. The purpose of the event was to give emerging artists, as well as those more advanced in their musical careers, the opportunity to promote their music by the medium of showcases and professional career development opportunities (i.e. interactive workshops and seminars).

The first edition of MNB Week in Moncton, New Brunswick proved to be a success with 75 bands participating and a multitude of music fans attending the performances in different venues. Approximately 30 to 40 people attended each seminar, exploring topics related to business development of the music industry. Strong participation at these seminars demonstrated the importance and the need to educate our artists on the complexity and functioning of the music industry and therefore help them in their pursuit of a professional career in music.

Last year Music/Musique NB Inc. expanded its concept of the event and held MNB Week in Edmundston, NB. In addition to over 50 emerging and internationally recognized artists showcasing, MNB Week 2006 also had a silent auction, a Master Class Series that complimented its professional development series, an industry brunch, an opening concert series and a trade show. Delegates and fans from across the province participated, as did government agencies at the Provincial, Atlantic, and Federal levels, leaders in the New Brunswick music industry, participants from the United States and Central Canada, and a host of volunteers and countless media representatives. In addition, MNB Week 2006 invited members of RADARTS and the APA to hold their semi -annual general meetings at the event. This initiative assured that NB artists were seen and heard by prominent industry buyers and programmers. In addition, and complementary to these other activities, an international program allowed several international delegates to meet to evaluate and develop industry connections with New Brunswick artists.

In 2007, both the number of attendees and participants and the caliber of the artists are expected to grow substantially.

Please note that all artists selected to showcase at MNB Week 2007 must register for the conference. Registration for solo acts is $69. For bands, registration is $109.25.
