Summary

With the departure of the North By Northwest music festival (NXNW) from Portland, Oregon, Willamette Week (Portland's Pulitzer Prize-winning alternative newsweekly and longtime co-producer of NXNW) teamed up with members of the local and regional music scene to create a new, non-profit, music festival in 2001: MusicfestNW. The goal was to create a festival, made by and for the Northwest music community that would be at once vital and commercially viable. The first five years of the annual September festival has made MusicfestNW synonymous with the region's best music and live music venues.

MusicfestNW 2008 will take over Portland September 6, 7 and 8. Fans get to experience musical brilliance and diverse genres with Indie rock, hip-hop, bluegrass, alt-country, electronica, DJs, gospel, tribute bands, prepubescent rock, rollicking street performers and everything in between! Last year's attendance was over 20,000!

Previous performers include Spoon, The Black Keys, Silver Jews, Stephen Malkmus, Rilo Kiley, Dandy Warhols, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Aesop Rock, The Melvins, Girl Talk, Okkervil River, Little Brother, The Zombies, Lyrics Born, Damien Jurado, The Thermals, Dan Deacon, and The Wrens.

This year, MusicfestNW is taking submissions EXCLUSIVELY through Sonicbids!

Participating venues include Crystal Ballroom, Roseland Theater, Berbati's Pan, Dante's, Ash St., Doug Fir, Mission Theater, Slabtown, Hawthorne Theater, Jimmy Mak's, Fez Ballroom, Someday Lounge, The Tube, Kelly's Olympian, Holocene

Bands selected to play festival will receive $100, one (1) wristband for each band member and any other perks MusicfestNW can wrangle.

MusicfestNW is sponsored by Willamette Week, Cricket, Comcast, and Sonicbids.
