Summary

The Festival des politischen Liedes (Festival of the Political Song)was held in Berlin from 1970 to 1990 and served as a meeting place for politically engaged musicians and interested fans from the all over the world. After several years and numerous changes and improvements, the festival was given a fresh direction under the new name, Festival Musik und Politik (Festival of Music and Policy).

Since 2000 the festival has been held in Berlin for 4 days in the last week of February with an average of 3500 in attendance. The festival grounds consist of 5-8 indoor venues which include stages, clubs, and theaters. The smallest stage is the “Festival Club Tonight” that has an intimate atmosphere that generates a personal connection between the artist and audience with a capacity of 100 people. On the larger end of the spectrum are the venues “Volksbühne Berlin” and the “Babylon Berlin” which host 1200 and 550 people, respectively.

The 2009 Festival of Music and Policy is now accepting Sonicbids submissions of all genres and regions with the intention of presenting a dynamic lineup of political songs and music. In the past, the festival has hosted performers from Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Great Britain, USA, Venezuela, Argentina, Cuba, Russia, and Ireland and is eager to hear from performers from many more countries!

There will be 15 to 30 musicians performing with compensation varying for each individual artist. The Festival is open to all genres, but is most interested in music that is politically relevant.
