Summary

The Musselman Triathlon Festival is a weekend of swim-bike-run multisport events held in Geneva, NY from July 15-16, 2006. Three races on July 16 attract athletes from across the United States to Seneca Lake State Park, scene of the start, finish, and segment transitions. Between Saturday’s activities (expo, pre-race dinner, Movie Night, and Athlete Village) and the half-ironman, sprint, and kid’s races, 1,000-1,200 athletes and another 1,000 to 2,500 spectators from all over North America will come to this town in the Finger Lakes.

We will distribute 1,000 Musselman Compilation CDs to all athletes and race volunteers. The compilation will be professionally mastered, designed and replicated. 25 songs will be selected from all submissions as finalists and then voted on by athletes, volunteers, community members, fans, etc. (and you will be able to promote online voting to your fan base). The top 15 tracks will be included on the CD and select artists will be invited to play at the festival. Food and lodging will be provided.

Performance opportunities include live entertainment on Saturday, July 15 at the Olympic-style Athlete Village on the campus of Hobart & William Smith Colleges, as well as race day music, July 16, to contribute to the festive atmosphere at the finish line during our post-race party. And of course we will have live music entertainment along the racecourse, too!

If you've never attended or participated in a triathlon, the "headquarters" of the race is a lively area where the race starts, ends and all athletes "transition" from the swim to the bike to the run. You can expect that each athlete will have an average of two friends and/or family members there to support them during the race. The longest race is the half-iron, which starts with a 1.2-mile swim in Seneca Lake, continues with a 56-mile bike along the shores of two lakes and through the scenic vineyards, and finishes with a half-marathon (13.1 miles). The race can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, depending on the athlete, so there is a captive audience of spectators the entire day.

We accept any upbeat genre, including but not limited to classic rock, rock, pop, blues, world music, etc. - anything upbeat and inspiring for athletes in the middle of a long endurance event or celebrating a successful finish. Please do not submit tracks with explicit lyrics. We will also select a bagpipe track for the CD. If you have one, or know someone who does, let them know how to submit!

This event is in its third year and benefits the Geneva Chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, as well as other volunteer and charitable organizations in the community.
