Summary

The Northeast Kingdom Music Festival is an independent, grassroots festival that eschews big corporate sponsorship and does not believe in selling water to its attendees. We created this festival to bring back the old-school vibe, where a family event was not necessarily watered down and a good party did not mean a total lack of consciousness. We attract a non-traditional, multi-aged festival crowd to a site that is both intimate and epic in its proportions.

The 4th Annual N.E.K. Music Fest takes place Aug. 4 & 5, 2006 at The Chilly Ranch in East Albany, Vermont (about 10 minutes off I-91 exit 25).

We book eclectically in genres such as Funk, Bluegrass, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Americana, Rock and World music. Our booking emphasis is on musical integrity and original, roots and rhythm oriented music that is danceable. We generally eschew booking "jam-bands" although we will book them on occasion. However, instrumental prowess is particularly appealing to us.

We will have 2 or possibly 3 slots for Sonicbids members.

Compensation is negotiable, but the lower fee/bands willing to play for "exposure" most likely to get booked. A travel stipend is possible and VIP camping accommodations are provided. In some cases rooms will be provided.

Past performers include Saul Williams, Midnite, The Perceptionists, Toubab Krewe, Anais Mitchell, Cyro Baptista, Otiel Burbridge, Israel Vibration, Hieroglyphics, The Slip, The Headhunters, Soulive, The Meditations, Kaki King, The Screaming Headless Torsos, Tony Trischka, The Spam All Stars, Old School Freight Train, Snake Oil Medicine Show, Luther Wright and the Wrongs, Vorcza Trio.

Our site includes:

  • Private artist road to main stage.

  • A 24'x48' 100% timberframe stage that is amongst the most solid and beautiful in the country.

  • A 100% organic hayfield site with camping in view of both stages.

  • A dedicated and professional grassroots staff of volunteers

  • Top-notch hospitality and non-pretentious artist treatment that defies our small size (we treat all artists the same despite how "famous" they are).

Sponsors are generally local businesses or music oriented companies. NO major corporate sponsors as they are against our ethical stand.
