The festival guarantees to select at least one Sonicbids artist to perform.

On which stage a selected artist(s) performs, will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Compensation is negotiable, but the lower fee/bands willing to play for "exposure" most likely to get booked. A travel stipend is possible and VIP camping accommodations are provided.

The 8th annual Northeast Kingdom Music Festival is set in a private and exquisitely beautiful natural setting in remote but accessible Northeastern Vermont (10 minutes off I-91). Submitting artists should be high energy, dynamic and danceable with traditional or hip-hop elements. NEKMF books eclectically in genres such as funk, bluegrass, reggae, hip-hop, Americana, rock and world music and is especially interested in hip-hop, high energy, instrumentally proficient bluegrass and gypsy music submissions. The booking emphasis is on musical integrity and original, roots and rhythm oriented music that is danceable. NEKMF generally does not book "jam-bands" although they are booked on occasion.

Notable Past Acts include: Gogol Bordello, Fishbone, The Coup, Soulive, Hieroglyphics, Sister Carol, The Devil Makes Three, The Perceptionists, Midnite, The Headhunters, The Meditations, Israel Vibration, Anais Mitchell, The Slip, Cyro Baptista and Beat the Donkey, Otiel Burbridge and the Peacemakers, Kaki King, Screaming Headless Torsos, The Tony Trischka Band, Snake Oil Medicine Show, Spam All-Stars, The Greyhounds and more.

The festival site includes:

  • Private artist road to main stage.
  • A 24'x48' 100% timberframe stage that is amongst the most solid and beautiful in the country.
  • A 100% organic hayfield site with camping in view of both stages.
  • A dedicated and professional grassroots staff of volunteers
  • Top-notch hospitality and non-pretentious artist treatment that defies the festival's small size (all artists are treated the same despite how "famous" they are).

Sponsors are only local companies that have a reasonably solid social mission or are at the very least considered "good" companies. NEKMF does it old-school style, with BYOB and does not sell alcohol. There is a multi-generational crowd of 2,000+ that is conscious and appreciative of fine musicianship.

The Northeast Kingdom Music Festival was created to bring back the old-school vibe, where a family event was not necessarily watered down and a good party did not mean a total lack of consciousness. The festival attracts a non-traditional, multi-aged festival crowd to a site that is both intimate and epic in its proportions.
