New England Americana Festival 2013

The New England Americana Festival, expecting to reel in hundreds of festival goers, celebrates a long tradition of deep-rooted American folk music. At least one Sonicbids member is guaranteed to perform at the 2013 festival, and will be paid $100 for their performance.The festival will take place in Harvard Square (Cambridge, MA) on outdoor stages and club venues from September 26-28, 2013. The festival requires that selected bands be based out of New England.

Every year, bands from throughout the Northeast come to share their versions of American folk music - their take on a profound tradition - a demonstrative road map on keeping true and pushing forward. Last year, the New England Americana Festival featured over 50 New England based acts that played for sold out crowds in Harvard Square at Club Passim, Oberon, Charlie’s Kitchen, Tommy Doyle’s, and an outdoor stage in Winthrop Park. This event has brought the Americana community in New England together - almost all the acts are now teaming up for shows of their own and sharing fans.

The three night event has featured artists such as: “Gearan, Royer, Ryan & McNeill,” Sarah Borges, Dennis Brennan, The Rationales, Sam Reid & the Riot Act, Coyote Kolb, Three Day Threshold, Highway Ghosts, John Colvert & Great Brighton Fire, Jeff Byrd & Dirty Finch, The Molenes, Big East, Sam Wheeler, Abbie Barrett, Sarah Blacker, Chasing Blue, This Way, Comanchero, Cactus Attack, Will Dailey and the Rivals, John Aanestad, Tom Hagerty, Glen Yoder, Sam Otis Hill, Tallahassee, Kieran Ridge, Susan Cattaneo, Treat Her Right, Eric Royer and His Guitar Machine, Mr. Sister, The Whiskey Boys, Audrey Ryan, Highland Drifters, Jeff Conley, Mount Peru, Adela and Jude, Patrick Coman, OldJack, Joe Fletcher, Mark Mandeville, and Raianne Richards.

Not unlike folk of all traditions, Americana passes down a history of the experience of a people and holds equal value upon artist as well as audience. The sharing of folk art rests upon the interdependence of audience and artist, sharing in a communal experience - the basis upon which the festival rests.
