Summary

The Nimbus School of Recording Arts is hosting an opportunity for Hip Hop artists to compete to receive a finished commercially releasable single song recording. The sessions will be produced by Rob the Viking (Swollen Members) and B. Morales (Bobby Hobart) and mixed by Roger Swan (K-OS, Kardinal Offishall, Rascalz, Swollen Members, etc). The sessions will be recorded at Nimbus’ world-class facilities located in Vancouver, BC, Canada, with the assistance of Nimbus students in the Beats & Urban Music Program (BUMP). Four Sonicbids artists (group or solo performer) will be selected by Nimbus Music Business students to perform as finalists at the Got Rhymes Finals Event and industry meet and greet on Friday, July 5, 2013, in Vancouver at The Media Club. The Four Finalists will be selected based on originality, lyrics and vocals, music composition, and overall strength of the Sonicbids EPK.

The judging to see who will win the recording prize will be done by a panel of Canadian Hip Hop industry celebrities, with input from Nimbus Business and BUMP students. The Finalists will be judged on strength of material, originality, vocal and/or instrumental talent, professionalism, stage presence, and audience reaction. One winning artist will be selected from the four finalists.

The contest will close at 11:59 PM on Monday, June 3, 2013. The selected finalists will be notified by Thursday, June 6, 2013. Finalists will need to be available to play a 20 minute set at the July 5th Finals Event and travel there at their own expense. They also must be available at the recording times offered if they win the final recording prize. In addition to consideration for the July 5th Finals Event, all submissions will be reviewed for future recording projects by Nimbus staff and students.

Nimbus School of Recording Arts was founded by legendary producers Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper, Peter Gabriel) and GGGarth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mudvayne), and leading music educator Kevin Williams (Hot Sole). Nimbus offers courses in Music Business, Music Production, Audio Engineering, Beats & Urban Music Production, Post-Production & Game Audio, and Live Sound, with intakes in January, May, and September.
