This year, the 17th Oppikoppi festival will be held from August 5-7 2011, with four stages featuring close to 80 artists and DJs over the three day festival.

There are 2 slots reserved for Sonicbids artists. Artists will receive travel and camp assistance, as well as per diems for food during the event. Sound equipment, basic backline and a sound crew will be provided at the festival./n/nOppiKoppi is a fast growing and one of the best and most renowned South African festivals around. This year, the 17th Oppikoppi festival will be held from August 5-7 2011, with four stages featuring close to 80 artists and DJs over the three day festival. Though the festival started off as a rock only festival, it now accepts anything from jazz, world music, house music, acoustic, comedy and all else in between. The festival features mostly South African bands, although international acts are included in the mix, as long as they have a good draw. .



Artist will receive travel and camp assistance, as well as per diems for food during the event. Sound equipment, basic backline and a sound crew will be provided at the festival, but artists are responsible for bringing their own instruments and anything extra they may need.



Past performers include Billy Talent, Audiophile021, Gang of Instrumentals, Jack Parrow, Mr. Sakitumi, Taxi Violence, Jimmy Eat World, Violent Femmes, The Awakening, Steve Newman, The Narrow, Soulwax and many, many more.



The festival started in 1994, with 27 local talents performing to a small crowd of enthusiasts. It has since grown substantially, with the addition of many new stages and thousands of people turning up each year. The festival is regarded by some as the primary influence in jump-starting the South African rock music movement in the late 90's.
