Battle of the Bands Schedule:

  • First Round - April 14, 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19

  • Semi-Finals - May 26, June 2, June 9

  • Finals: Saturday June 18th

Performance:

Bands are given a 35 minute set length, with a line check before their performance. A 15 minute window is provided for setup and takedown between bands. Bands are allowed (but not required) to perform one cover song in their set. Performing an additional cover song is grounds for disqualification. A free live recording of each bands' performance is available to sell or use however they wish in the future.

Prizes:

  • $1,000 cash + $1,500 studio credit with Mark Bernstein (Alabama Thunderpussy, Saint Diablo)

  • Bands who win their first round night will have a shooter named after them permanently put on the Cullen's Cove menu. The artists will choose the ingredients.

  • All performers will have a free meal (up to $10), water and soda. Bar can't advertise discounts on alcohol due to ABC regulations.

Ticket Information:

Bands are required to sell at least thirty $5 tickets for each round of competition. This guarantees that a crowd of no less than 150 people will attend the night of your performance. There is a $50 guarantee for all bands who participate and meet their ticket quota. Bands who do not meet their quota must pay for the remainder.

Tickets count for two things only:

1) Order of performance is determined by ticket sales. Highest sold gets first choice of timeslot. Lowest sold gets last choice.

2) Ticket bonus. Band who sells the most tickets has 5 points added to their score. 2nd highest gets 4, 3rd highest gets 3, 4th highest gets 2 and last gets 1. Any bands who do not meet their quota will not receive a bonus.

Scoring:

This is NOT an event where the crowd picks the winner. Painted Red Promotions is proud of our sophisticated scoring system that highlights the most important parts of performance. The best bands of the night are determined by a team of 3 judges scoring in 5 categories:

  • Vocal Performance - (Does the singer hit the right notes, are they in key, good tone, do vocal harmonies fit, etc.)

  • Instrumental Performance - (Are the instrumentalists proficient, are the drums in time, do instrumentals fit together, etc.)

  • Stage Presence - (Do the performers capture the eye, are musicians staring at their hand placement, overall entertainment factor)

  • Content & Polish - (Are the songs well written, do all of your songs sound the same, songs properly introduced, down time between songs, etc.)

  • Crowd Appreciation - (Does the crowd appear to enjoy the band who is playing, applause, etc.)

  • Bands can score up to 150 points in these categories. On top of this, bands can score up to 5 points from the ticket bonus

Judges reserve the right to penalize a band one point-per-minute that they go over their allotted time in performance and tear down categories.

Two bands from each of the first round nights will advance to the second round. An additional 3 bands from the first round will move on to the Semi-Finals as Wild Cards.
Two bands from each of the semi-final nights will advance to the finals. Six bands will compete in the finals for the Grand Prize.
