Summary

The Philadelphia Folk Festival, presented by the Philadelphia Folksong Society (PFS), is the longest continuously running festival of its kind in the country. PFS accepts both established and emerging artists to total more than 100 hours of music on 8 stages.

At least two artists will be selected from Sonicbids submissions, and all selected artists will be paid. Pay range is $100-$5,000 for emerging artists. In 2013 seven acts were selected from Sonicbids submissions.

The Philadelphia Folk Festival will feature artists from genres including: Traditional Folk, Folk Rock, Americana, Bluegrass/Newgrass, Blues, Celtic, World/Fusion, Traditional Dance, Old-Timey, Singer/Songwriter, and related styles.

Over it's 55-year history of programming the festival and seasonal presentations, PFS has hosted Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, The Decemberists, Jackson Browne and David Lindley, David Bromberg, Fairport Convention, Nickel Creek, Mississippi John Hurt, Ani DiFranco, Beausoleil, Oscar Lopez, Taj Mahal, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Goodman, Phil Ochs, and hundreds more.

PFS is dedicated to preserving the past, promoting the present, and securing the future of folk music and related forms of expression through education, presentation, and participation. Artists are juried with regard to their quality of performance and versatility. Artists may be accepted for their ability to play a main stage show, lead an innovative workshop, showcase on an intimate side stage, or any combination of these. Special consideration will be given to artists who are members of the Philadelphia Music Co-op or who have played other PFS events.
