PLAY: Ashkenaz World Music and Dance Community Center (CA)

Ashkenaz is the East Bay's home to world music & dance since 1973. Turned into a nonprofit in 1997. Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center presents concerts, classes, and workshops of participatory dance and music rooted in traditional cultures from around the world. We are committed to providing a great place to dance that supports local and international bands of both established and emerging artists in a respectful, comfortable, safe, family atmosphere. 

Annually voted Best Place to Dance by East Bay Express, we're currently looking for bands to make the people dance for our fall/winter calendar.

We're looking ahead in the 2020 calendar due to social distancing measures currently in place.

Ashkenaz is an all-ages venue that also serves great food (mostly organic) and drinks and has been a family destination since 1973. We pride ourselves on building friendships and a culturally inclusive community that encourages social awareness, education, and dedication to fairness, honor, and equality. We host local and international performing artists of ethnic traditions of the world in performances, classes, and workshops. Our intimate room invites audiences into a cultural experience to dance, listen, and participate. We're currently accepting local, regional and international acts to play our unique venue for our 2020 fall/winter calendar.

• We're looking for bands of all genres that play original music. We love Rock, African, Latin, Zydeco, Funk, Reggae, Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz, Folk, Acoustic, Country, Blues and Soul acts
• Looking for local, regional and national and international acts
• Bands must be actively playing shows 
• Bands must be willing to heavily promote the show if chosen to play
• All acts applying must meet the criteria that we look for, lyrics, stage presence, style and artists must have a fanbase
• Acts must have a solid online presence 
• Bands must have a following in the East Bay

• Location: 1317 San Pablo Ave, Berkeley, California
• Open Dates: Tues-Sun (Winter calendar 2020)
• Band Compensation: 75% of ticket sales after house expenses (which are $450-$550)
• Full backline and PA provided, sound engineer is provided 
• Bands are able to sell merch on-site
