Summary

POP Montreal is a grassroots festival created and supported by people who love music and live performance. Founded in 2002 by fans and supporters of music, it has expanded in scope and vision every year, and will celebrate its 12th anniversary from September 25th to 29th, 2013.

Each year, the five-day festival presents more than 400 musicians. Delivering a bold cross-section of art forms and events, the festival includes symposium discussions, artisan and visual art exhibitions, workshops, fashion shows, film screenings, and, of course, a few all-night parties. For musicians, artists, fans, curators, critics, record labels and industry, POP Montreal is the North American festival that provides a dynamic introduction to the next generation of musical talent and independent art forms.

The 2013 festival will take place September 25th to the 29th in over 40 venues throughout Montreal. There will be at least 40 slots reserved for Sonicbids artists. Selected artists will be compensated for their performance(s). In 2011, more than 80 Sonicbids bands were selected for POP Montreal.

Past festival performers include Patti Smith, Fever Ray, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, Bun B, Fred Wesley, Butthole Surfers, Malajube, Tokyo Police Club, A-Trak, Gonzales, Beck, Blonde Redhead, Interpol, Diamanda Galas, Van Dyke Parks, The xx, Mary Margaret O'Hara, The Budos Band, Timber Timbre, Radio Radio, Karkwa, Os Mutantes, Devin The Dude, The Arcade Fire, Ratatat, Thee Oh Sees, Stars, Tapes n' Tapes, The Dears, Burt Bacharach, Nick Cave, Joanna Newsom, Socalled, Chromeo, Boot Camp Clik, Kid Koala, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks, Japandroids, JEFF the Brotherhood, Peter Hook, Q-Bert, Samiam, tUnE-yArDs, and Yuck.

POP Montreal remains firmly entrenched in the ethic and aesthetics of the Montreal music community. They are committed to providing opportunities for independent musicians, promoters and fans to participate in this world-class event. Because their initiatives began from grassroots efforts, they remain open to all, willingly engaging all ideas and inspiration. They will not become some compromised showcase for untried bands and the big record execs that feed off of them. POP Montreal challenges this linear equation and strives to be provocative and encourage artists to involve themselves in making this happen.

Submit Now: POP Montreal will stop accepting submissions once they've received 2,000 submissions on Sonicbids. This may happen prior to the stated deadline.
